FUN for different ages and abilites!
This is a deck of cards where every card has at least one common picture on it that matches another card. (I don't know how they design these!) I use this game with my students, as well as playing it with my own children. For the students, I use it with a small group (4 or less) and if a student answers a school/homework question correctly, I present 2 face-down cards to the group. Whomever shouts the "match" first, gets to hold the pair. We continue until the deck is depleted and then count to see who has the most. They like looking for the matches so much that they try very hard to answer their "schoolwork" questions quickly to get to play! :D I guess I am tricking them a little to do their work, but it is still fun. There are other versions of the game described in the insert in the tin, but the simple "find the match" is one we like most (followed closely by "poison gift." In that version everyone has one card in front of them and tries to match the top card on the middle pile to someone ELSE'S pile. The one with the smallest pile at the end wins.) I find this games works best in a small group of 3 to about 6 (2 players are okay.) With more than that, it gets hard for that many people to lean in and see the pictures. There is NO reading required (there are 3 words "trick" "treat" and "boo" but the non-readers just say "orange word!" (they are all different colors) and sooner or later they learn that it says "trick". Sometimes they don't know what the picture is (like garlic or a test tube) but just shouting "the white ball" is sufficient. It helps if there is a "judge" who can decide who gets the pair (I sometimes give away 1 card to each of 2 students who may "tie.") My favorite part is that you never really know who is going to be good at this. It isn't always the smartest. It isn't always a girl (or a boy), it isn't always the one best at math or strategy. It isn't even always the ADULT! Not too many card games are really fairly matched between kids and adults. I have played this with special needs students all the way up through adults, they all think it is fun. I keep the set in a ziploc in my purse in the fall...my own children like to play it when we are stuck somewhere with nothing to do...waiting for you food at a restaurant is the best place. That can get boring. And my twins are 13 now so tic-tac-toe just doesn't cut it anymore! ha ha!! Overall, sooooo worth the money I spent on it. I am hoping they come out with other holiday versions as well. This and Zombie Dice are THE most requested games of the season. If you know a child/teen/fun adult, either of those (or both!) would be a much longer-lasting treat than candy! (I would probably throw a chocolate bar in there too :D)
