Works well. You just need to bait them and understand their habitat.
As someone who's been fighting Deer Flies for years, here's a tip: I used an old bird bath stand to place the ball, then coated it. Keep in mind folks, that deer flies love the color of Royal Blue. This I know to be fact; in fact I've tested different colors throughout the years. Deer Flies were swarming my royal blue gazing ball, so I moved the the inflatable ball, mounted in the bird bath stand next to the gazing ball. Also, keep in mind that deer flies won't normally attack in the shade, and they are attracted to movement, so I made a few trips across my yard in the direct sunlight to attract them, as I walked towards my trap, then, acted like I was being attacked. (Yes, I used myself as bait). When they see their insidious buddies attacking you, they join right in. My neighbors must think I've lost my mind, but the results are great!

Doesnโt work
We researched what to buy prior to making this purchase. The reviews raved about the effectiveness against horse flies. We have been battling green head horse flies in our back yard to no avail, and this product hasnโt caught a single one of them. We used half the can of adhesive on one ball thinking that we would add more if necessary. One half can thoroughly coated the ball but the next day we found the adhesive dripping off the ball like it was melting from the heat of the sun. We attempted to move the ball from spot to spot in the yard, some more shaded areas than others but it didnโt help. So we couldnโt have added more adhesive to begin with because the amount we had originally used wasnโt even staying on the ball. Where the adhesive dripped onto the ground had killed the grass. My husband was bitten by a horse fly as he moved the ball to a shaded spot and turned to shake the fly onto the ball. The fly landed on the ball and promptly flew away. We have managed to get several gnats and a few Japanese beetles, but not a single horse fly. I wouldnโt recommend that anyone buy this product.

Bug ball that rally works for the yellow biting flies.
I ordered this last year and was skeptical. I just had this up for one week. I have coated my second bal and removed the dead biting flies from this one. I am amazed at how many there are. I have four horses and it has been horrible trying to figure out how to get rid of these biting flies. This works. The glue is a little messy to put on, but is so worth it to catch these nasty little boogers. I took needle nose pliers to remove the dead ones and will reuse after the one I have hung up gets full again.

Doesnโt seem to attract bugs
I didnโt have the issues some people have with the sticky stuff. I washed the ball with dish soap and spread the sticky stuff on pretty easy. What Iโm annoyed with is that it caught ONE yellow fly in the time I have had it. The rest flew right by it to bite me on the ankles. Seems well made and the sticky stuff is very sticky, but it says yellow flies right on the ball itself and they donโt seem to care much for it.

Yes it works
I agree that the price is too high ($46 for 3 balls and goo!) and I wound up having to buy a bicycle pump to inflate them too. But! I put these up 2 weeks ago and I have successfully trapped several yellow flies and at least 3 horse flies with no new goo application so far. I follows the directions and hung these on the corners leading to the shadiest part of my patio. Because I hung them from existing gutters, one is hanging on the corner where the brick changes to white stucco and the other is against a brick wall near the corner. The one on the edge has caught a lot more flies than the one against the wall. Given the directions, I think itโs probably because the heat signature they give off is more apparent next to the cooler white stucco than the red brick. I wonโt say we have no more flies, but their activity has significantly decreased, and I probably would have paid someone $50 to make that happen on any given evening that I got run off the patio into the house to escape biting flies before. I am not sure if you can buy the goo or the balloons separately ? I havenโt looked. Also they are bigger than I expected them to be (full on beach ball size!) and not pretty. You will have to figure out how to hang them; I have a third I am going to put by the garage on a shepherdโs hook I bought at the garden center. So again itโs a pretty big investment to catch some flies, but I have definitely caught a noticeable number of flies.

Deer and Horsefly Killer
I have a large backyard where a pool is located along with a swamp in the wood just past my lawn. Deer and Horse flies spawn like armies each year and drive me nuts during parties or just working in the yard. I was Skeptical on this working, the day before my July 4th party in New England, I blew these black balls up, applied the glue and hung them only 2 ft off the ground around my pool and the yard where I place my volleyball court up. Within 24 hours I caught at least 100 of them, made the party so much more fun. I wished I had more and came back on just to do that. Being in the sun constantly the glue does try after sometime and you have to reapply it but I'm happy to do it. I had also bought a 70$ hanging one with a umbrella canopy over it to trap them and threw it away, it did nothing for the problem. I recommend this product!

Ineffective
I purchased these based on some of the reviews and other sites. They were placed at various height and locations, as recommended, but none of them were successful. They have been a waste of time, money and effort. This has been a bumper season for horse flies and deer flies, and after a month of placement they have caught a whopping 3 deer flies and 1 horse fly (along with a butterfly, a moth and numerous knats). These were placed near and around the paddocks with horses and donkeys, where the flies are prevalent, but nothing. I have killed more horse and deer flies with my hands in one day then these have caught in a month. Packaging: The balls were shipped in bags, but the cans of adhesive were not and leaked all over the inside of the boxes and the contents. Adhesive: Like other reviews, application with the little brush was futile and time consuming. Also, because it went on so thick and clumpy with the brush, a lot of it melted and dripped off in the heat. Fortunately there was still enough on the surface to catch what it could. I also utilized a can of the spray adhesive on one of the balls, which was remained on the ball, but was no more effective then the can stuff. Recommendation: Personally I will not purchase these again. I will purchased other adhesive and apply it to something else as the flies did not perceive these to be animals. I will change their locations in hopes of some improvement, and if so will provide and updated review.

Yellow fly trap!
After having been bitten mercilessly by these evil insects, my sweet revenge on the yellow flies is in progress! Photo less than 20 minutes after hanging outside. There are probably hundreds between the three ornaments now. Ordered two more and a couple cans of spray too. Decorating with these Redneck Christmas ornaments like Santaโs coming to town!

catch em spray is useless
the catch em sticky coating adhesive is totally useless as it is not sticky at all. Only leaves an oily film on surface of the ball which cannot stick flies or any other insect. If you can find another adhesive that actually is sticky it probably may work.
