A bit too complicated and too big to be called "handheld".
If you cannot absolutely afford the normal sized sewing machine, then go for it. Otherwise this is too complicated. Also, the fact that it doesn't have a lock stitch is a big minus. The stitching quality is good.

Buy on your on risk
1. It's not worth it according to it's price. 2. The sewing is only one sided and stitches are temporary. 3. Product is too noisy and I don't recommend to carry in emergency. 4. It looks easy but it's not easy to stitch. 5. I recieved product late night and the package was damaged and sewing thread holder was broken.

I have been using the machine to make doll clothes for three inch dolls. For the price, this is a great little machine. It is lite weight, runs on 4 AA, or via a wall socket. This is strickly a bear bones machine that only does one stitch and does not do reverse. I have not had to change out the bobbins yet, but the instructions seem pretty clear. My only complaint is the tension, It's very hight, but it needs to be to keep the stitches even. So when I go to remove the project from the machine, I need to pull the thread out of the tension to cut threads and tie it off. This would be great for a starter machine or something to travel with.

I bought this machine so I could learn how to sew, I've never touched a sewing machine in my life. That being said, there is quite a bit of a learning curve but once you figure it out this machine is amazing! It's so small and lightweight, but I've been able to make many masks, pajama shorts and even a baby blanket. I would recommend buying your own needles, it may have been just my lack of knowledge, but both the ones mine came with bent really easily. It comes with an extender table, a few bobbins (some with thread and some empty), a needle threader, and a foot peddle. I so far have not had any issues with the foot peddle, but I always make sure I'm barefoot so I can feel it and not stomp on it. My light works perfectly fine and is very useful. There are some great and easy to follow videos on YouTube that explain how to use and thread the machine. Overall, I feel like it's been worth the cost, it does have a decent learning curve if you've never used a machine before, but I honestly think it is very versatile and strong for how small it is. I do want to add in that this machine will ONLY do a straight stitch, and it does not backstitch. It also only has two speeds (which in my opinion is fast and very fast). This is just something to keep in mind if you are also learning.

Good comparison pricing. The machine is just for KIDS, unless you hem with only TWO folds of fabric. And who does that? If you try three or four folds so you have no loose threads, it fails. IT IS NOT THE TENSION. The tension works ONLY with two folds of fabric. NOTHING ELSE. Not a good hemmer or fixer. But otherwise sews well. The tension only works with two pieces of fabric.

My 7 year old has been getting into crafting often lately and she has been talking about wanting to sew and make her own pillows and such so I thought a sewing machine would be the best gift that I could find her for her birthday that is less than a week away. I did not want to get her a huge machine or spend a lot of money on one that she may not use a lot plus I have no idea how to use one myself so I though that this inexpensive beginners sewing machine would be the best bang for my buck at this point. I am super happy, it looks really awesome and even comes with a mini detachable table, foot pedal and spools of thread as well as a measuring tape and a book of instructions. The instructions being the MOST important part as I will be learning just as much as she was and we will be able to learn this together. The instructions are short and seem easy to follow which I really appreciate. It does come with a few (white and black) spools of thread but it doesn't come with any fabric so you will need to buy fabric as well as any thread if you need different colors. Very excited and trying to hold out on giving it to her early haha!
