A Godsend For Your Maine Coon!
I've been meaning to write this review for some time. It's been about five or so months now that my cat has been getting Royal Canin instead of his previous food. If you're situation is anything like mine, and you are tearing your hair out trying to figure out what to feed a cat who is throwing up everything he eats, you have come to the right place. Let me just say that before I got this food, my Maine Coon cat was throwing up everywhere, and had constipation so bad that I had to take him to the vet, who kindly informed me that cats with this problem develop life-threatening blockages of the intestinal tract as a result of undigested hair not being able to pass through their systems. Needless to say (and $500 later!), I was desperate. Someone had told me about raw food being good for their tummies, but my cat only eats dry food, so I sat down to do some research on the internet, and that is how I found this food on Amazon -- truly a Godsend; I am not exaggerating --, PLUS the Maine Coon Food (same brand). I mix them together. Well, the miracle didn't happen overnight, but it did happen. The vomiting began to taper off. After several weeks it died down to almost nothing. He occasionally vomits like once a month instead of several times a day. Also, as we say around my house he began "doing his business" regularly, i.e., on a daily basis. Once in awhile he skips, but the vet told me 1-2 days was ok. Thankfully, when I switched his food, he liked the Royal Canin. I heard that if they don't take to it immediately, start mixing it into their food little by little. The night we had to take him to the vet, he was so uncomfortable that he was crying and hissing like a feral cat, and his abdomen felt hard! It was heartbreaking! Well, he has not been uncomfortable or sick or needed to go back to the vet since I started feeding him Royal Canin. He is his old self: sweet and adorable. As you also know if you have a maine coon, they are a wonderful breed. Very playful and loving, beautiful and extremely intelligent - yes, beauty and brains. The hairball formula seems to do what it says it will -- help your cat to digest large quantities of hair (and, if you have a maine coon, you know about large quantities). The vet actually told me that he was doing "too good of a job" of cleaning himself and that's why he was having problems digesting his food, and that I should try to get him to lick himself less. (Can you believe that?) Anyway, the hairball formula takes care of the hairballs, but giving your maine coon the Maine Coon Formula (I think 31) is also important for them. The way their jaw and mouth is designed, they can pop the food in without chewing and down it goes, to wreak havoc on their digestive system. Now I give him a mixture of the two foods and it covers bother bases. We actually hear the delightful sound of chewing when he eats and not just gulping! (Again, if you have a maine coon, you'll know what I'm talking about.) P.S., I bought some raw food over the internet that was supposed to be the next best thing to Santa Claus, and my maine coon refused to eat it! So much for that! But we don't need it now that we've found Royal Canin.

Surprised at how tasty this must be to Vita the cat
I was looking for a 2-pound bag of Wellness dry cat food when I discovered this Royal Canin variety. My cat Vita, an eight year old female Maine Coon mix, is very picky about wanting fresh food in her bowl, so I don't like to buy huge bags of dry food. Although I found the Wellness dry food (blue bag) in five-plus pound sizes, I started reading the entertaining and informative reviews of other food. I've tried Royal Canin in the past and had pretty good results with Vita liking it and not just scarfing it down, only to regurgitate half of her meal. Vita the cat throws up long stringy hair balls from hell. She typically does this in warm weather of course. In my ignorance, I never thought to look for cat food that might help her digest (and pass?) all the hair she ingests from her rigorous grooming. Sometimes I really wince when I see her licking that long fur, over and over. Good grief, I think to myself, your insides must look like a shag rug. I just mopped up her routine hair packages left on the tile, hardwood, and carpet... how could I be so insensitive as not to look for a digestive aid? Well, to get to the point: I ordered Royal Canin Dry Cat Food, Intense Hairball 34 Formula, 3-Pound Bag from Amazon a few weeks ago. Hence, I am now commenting on the results. Ok... more to the point: I am amazed at how much Vita loves this food. She immediately ate it all and did not leave her usual 1/3 of saliva-drooled-upon food behind. Her habit is to leave food in the bowl because it is not "fresh" enough after she's had her way with it, and I end up eventually throwing out good money. Because I worry that giving her this formula 100% every day might cause her to become dehydrated (or because of some other junk science idea that pops into my head), I decided to mix it 50/50 with her Wellness dry food. I went ahead and bought a small bag of Wellness from my local pet store. I do after all love to support local businesses when feasible. Regarding hairballs: So far she has not thrown up any at all, and we've been having a heat wave. Her innards seem to be working very well and she's even gained a little weight, which for her is good. Vita is a 50/50 indoor/outdoor cat. I let her out during the day or she would drive us all crazy. So even though this food specifies that it is for INDOOR, I ignored that. I am glad that we now seem to have a solution for hairballs and digestion. Just make sure your cat drinks plenty of water (more of my theorizing).

Great feline food
Yes, it IS expensive, but my two cats rescued from horrible pet hoarder situation as tiny kittens, are doing well on this food. They had been deprived of food and water in utero, and until rescued. They came to me on Pro-plan, which they liked until the formula was changed, after which, they would not accept other foods, or they threw up any the would initially accept. I got vet recommendations, and started at least expensive on list & worked my way up until they no longer threw up or snubbed the offerings! This was the winner (of course it was the most expensive!). They are twelve now and are healthy in spite of the early odds against them. One of the two had rather coarse fur until we started this food. Her fur changed to super soft within a month or two. They split a can of wet food daily, also from Royal Canin. Worth the money. We think we avoided extra vet bills because of this high quality food.
