Is there a bios setting to have it recognize the m.2 hard drive?

Check the pin diagram under the M.2 drive. By default it is setup for NVMe. You need to move the jumbers just behing the connecctor to match SATA if that is the drive you are trying to use. I used a SATA M.2 and it worked just fine. You can then go to the Boot menu (ESC at boot) in the BIOS and activate the M.2 as a boot device and set priority.
