The knife blade says "usa made", the other product information listed indicates it's "made in china". so where is this knife made???

According to SOG, “many of their fixed blade knives are made is Seki Japan. Their tools are made OR assembled in the US. Most of their folding blades are made in Taiwan. To Lear more about a specific knife, ask them.” My understanding is that there are no hats and fast regulations for marking something “USA Made”, “Made in the USA”, or otherwise.

What is the tab at the base of the grip? A “glass breaker”?

Or it could be a skull crusher. Seriously, this a defensive option for close quarter combat. If you were holding the knife and were attacked, but did not feel the need to stab or slash, you could use this POMMEL at the base of the knife to strike someone on the side, back or top of the skull; side of the neck, or anywhere about the face. It won't break and will save injury to your hands.
