The overall construction was much heavier than I would have anticipated. Installation was a breeze due to the big lip to hide my poor cutting skills. The outlet side is much lower than you think.

I gave 5 stars because overall the mail slot is made well and works as it should. I had no issues with the door as others have said. One suggestion is the mail box is black but they supply shiny silver screws. Easy fix, I bought decorative black ones - but they should just put them in. The other thing is the mail chute is at a 45 degree angle from the start with no allowance for the thickness of a wall. You can get around it by making the hole bigger but maybe they could have it go in level for about half inch to help accommodate the thickness of the wall. That may complicate the design though. Keep in mind if you're cutting a hole in the side of your house it's going to take some tools.

This is a really nice mail slot. Easy to install. The metal is sturdy. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because the flap doesn't lay completed closed. Also there are gaps in the hinge part. Those gaps and the door not completely shutting allows air/dirt/light to come into the house. The door we replaced didn't have these gaps. Really disappointed about that but otherwise I really like it. Works well

I installed this myself last year and it's been wonderful not having to worry about mail theft while we're away. I added a "US MAIL" label in stick-on gold letters to help the mailman find it, since our previous external mailbox was in a different spot. The mail goes into an interior closet and I boxed in a space on a shelf with black fiberboard to make it harder to peer in and see the contents. I wish I'd hired a professional to install it so that they could also have built a proper box with a little door inside the house to contain the mail. One of these days I'll get that done too. I do wish it had a spring on the flap for self-closing, but I couldn't find any product that does, so I just make a point of checking the flap and closing it after the mail gets delivered. An annoyance only and not worth taking a star away IMO.

This is a good solution, but if you're not an experienced carpenter, I strongly suggest you hire one!! The business where my wife is office manager needed a key-drop for employees returning after-hours. The challenge? Their office is in a steel-framed, steel-sided structure that had a conventionally studded, drywall "box" built inside it. That left the external wall at something between 7" and 9" thick. Although the instructions are clearly written and illustrated, they assume you're working on a standard 2x4 framed structure. So ... I finally cut the slot in the outside wall and cleared away two layers insulation, a slice of a horizontal wood purlin, and finally the 1/2" drywall. Even with the best tools and a lot of experience, I ended up with a hole on the inner wallboard that was too large and had to be filled in to get a solid installation. The finished result is a relatively secure, nicely fitted solution that lives up to its description.
