Great Product!!
Fortunately, I found this product when my previous HCl product was no longer available. The Nutricost Betaine HCl Powder provides much more thorough and complete digestion than I have experienced for years and alleviates the nasty symptoms of incomplete digestion! Yes, the flavor is quite "tangy" when mixed with water, but becomes totally tolerable in time. I always take after having eaten small serving of yogurt mixed with digestive enzymes--definitely works very well for me and I'm totally convinced that my nutritional status has greatly improved!!

Lifesaver!
Betaine HCL literally SAVED my life! I was on a feeding tube where food was being bypassed through my stomach, straight into my small intestine. Everything I ate made me severely sick. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and just kept telling me to take acid reducer medication. They finally did a gastric emptying test, where you have to eat radioactive eggs, to test how long they take to empty from your stomach. It look HOURS. My food was not digesting. I started taking this HCL and I was soon off my feeding tube. My food was finally digesting and I was no longer getting sick. Do you have burping? Acid reflux? Constipation? Nausea? Undigested food in stool? All of these are caused by LOW stomach acid not too HIGH. Like you are told by your doctors.

Works as well for digestion as any betaine HCL I've used through the years but. . .
. . . I wish I knew where it was produced. A lot of supplements are made in China these days which gives me the willies! Btw, you must encapsulate this before taking. If you take it straight you'll burn your esophagus and be in a world of hurt!

Tastes like salty, fishy sweat or urine
While I have never tasted urine, this tastes like urine smells. Tried mixing it with my protein shake which is very strong, and this product ruined it. Disgusting!

YMMV, but did not work for me. Lots of burping. (Was worth the try.)
I've been taking omeprazole (half dose) for a long time and that's been effective at eliminating GERD. A public figure talked about it and said he'd taken betadine hcl and that fixed the problem. That the esophagus not closing was due to low acid instead of enough acid. So, worth a try. Buuuutt, bad result. I started with probably about a third or less of the recommended dosage. And burped like crazy for hours. Would it work better with a capsule? Probably not. I think I just don't have the kind of issue that more acid fixes. Hope you have better results.
