Good way to save money in the long run
I personally like Nellie's Dryer Balls (henceforth "Nellie's"). I don't think they're anything amazing, but they are nice to have. Until recently, I had always used dryer sheets, and been happy (although I hate buying more of them when I run out).Nellie's have opened my eyes to a world where dryer sheets are hardly necessary. I feel that my clothes are dried faster with Nellie's than with dryer sheets. They don't get the extra fresh scent, but that's what my detergent is for.Originally, I bought some "as seen on TV" dryer balls for significantly cheaper than Nellie's. I eventually bought some Nellie's so that I could use 4 balls at a time rather than the 2 I originally had. I don't see that much of an increased benefit from this, but I wasn't expecting anything drastic either--the two dryer balls worked relatively well. The one MINIMAL benefit of using 4 instead of 2 (which could be a fluke) is when drying my sheets, blankets, and pillow cases, they do seem to get a bit less tangled. 2 also helped, but not QUITE as much. Again, it could just be a random fluke, but that's been my observation. The unique thing about Nellie's was that they come in a more oval shape, rather than spherical. Others have said they heard spherical balls but not the oval shaped Nellie's. I honestly didn't hear much from either, but my dryer is behind a closed door, so that could be why.All in all, you can dry your clothes for a shorter time and expect decent results. That's what Nellie's advertises, and that's what you get. No chemicals involved, if that's of concern to you. I didn't really care about that. I like that I can use shorter dry cycles (less power) and don't need to buy new dryer sheets. I keep my old dryer sheets around for other purposes around the house, now, but they pretty much sit on a shelf and don't get opened anymore. One thing worth noting--I ordered this 2-pack expecting the standard blue dryer balls. Instead, I received the green PVC-free version of the dryer balls. They are slightly different size and shape, but overall seem to be of comparable quality. (I have some of the blue ones as well, which I gave as a gift) Neither seems particularly better than the other in my experience, so this review applies to both. Neither has degraded or broken down at all, so I'm comfortable recommending either, depending on how green you want to be.I also don't find that Nellie's are significantly better than the as seen on TV dryer balls I've used. They were twice the price, in my case, but I was willing to take a shot at it--the PVC-free ones may be even more expensive than that.If you're curious about it and just want to try, you can try to get a generic knockoff. Nellie's may last better over time, but in the past year+ of use, they've performed similarly enough that I can't say the Nellie's brand is a must-have over the generic. Still, it's a good product, and worth it.

Good idea but not worth it
The idea of adding more tumbling action to clothes that are drying makes perfect sense, which is why I bought these dryer balls. They have two problems. First, they make a lot of noise -- an almost constant thudding and clunking. This happens whether you use one or more balls. Second, they hit the door of my dryer often enough that it bounces open, and the dryer stops before the clothes are dry. (Of course, you know this instantly, because the thudding stops, but who wants to babysit the dryer?!) I'll keep these for use with big and bulky objects like rugs, but I won't use them again with regular loads of clothes.

Not as happy as I thought I'd be
Doesn't totally get rid of the cling. I like these dryer balls more than my wife does but she does most of the laundry. I hate dryer sheets as they clog up the vent over prolonged use. I would say these dryer ball are excellent when you use them with heavy cottons like towels and jeans.

Good replacement for old favorites
I bought my first set of dryer balls about 4 years ago, and used them in every load until they began to lose their spikes (and these were replacements for a set of loud, bouncing, possibly useless tennis balls I had used for the previous 5 years). It was time to choose a replacement! After doing my research online, I settled on these Nellie's Dryer Balls, which come as a set of 4. They are each much lighter than the dryer balls I used before, which I think makes them gentler on my clothes, but also less effective in shortening drying time, and tumbling out wrinkles. They do help loads dry more evenly, and they definitely reduce static cling.

Good
These are good, but not sure if I would continue using. It is very easy for them to get lost in my clothing. My clothes are also sometimes static-y after using these in the dryer. I am switching off between these and dryer sheets currently.

Good for cloth diapers
I use these with our laundry because dryer sheets can't be used with cloth diapers and they create excess waste. These are more "green" and cost effective. I guess they work. My clothes aren't phenomenally soft, but I do notice a difference if I don't use these balls. They also stand up well to abuse. I have three kids and a husband who does ironwork, so I do a ton of laundry. These things get used constantly. I bought two boxes and am happy with them. They don't do what dryer sheets do, but they're MUCH better than nothing and I appreciate the "green" factor and the economic benefit.

They really work!
My dermatologist recommended dryer balls so I could stop using fabric softener or dryer sheets. She said to get at least four balls, preferably six or eight. I got four at first to see if I liked them. I was so pleased I ordered four more. I usually use all eight of them together. Four worked fine, but more balls seems to reduce the drying time. Like other reviewers, I have a lot less lint now. What I like about the Nellie's product is they are high-quality and have a two year guarantee. Helpful hints: You should run several loads of towels before you start using the dryer balls, to clean the fabric softener/sheet residue out of your dryer. The balls work best for me if I wash items together that take about the same amount of time to dry. Like I don't make a load that has both blue jeans and synthetic fabrics like microfiber or nylon. The reason for this is the static factor. If you dry things too hot or too long it creates static. My clothes and even the towels are nice and soft. It seems like a silly idea, but now I'm a believer!

Maybe...maybe not
After three weeks of use, cannot definitively state that their use has made that much difference in the laundry.I am convinced that these do "fluff" the towels. Clothes seem pretty much as they did, maybe a bit softer and a few less wrinkles. But I do know that these are completely aroma free and over the long haul are a bit better for the environment, I suppose.UPDATE: It's September, 2013, and the review stands - 3 stars seems a bit much, hence the drop to 2. Overall, I keep using them, but I could just as easily toss them. My dogs really like them.
