Khadas New Vim Heatsink for SBC

This heatsink from Khadas is nicely engineered to fit their VIM3 (and apparently Edge as well). It comes with two thermal pads (one for each model) that can be cut to provide ample coverage for the SOC, RAM and PMICs. It's plenty to keep the VIM3 cool under light load, but if you're running sustained heavy loads you'll want a bigger one or one with a fan to avoid throttling and core shutdowns. This one is probably ideal for things like TV box/media center usage, where the CPU loads are not high and silence is preferable to ultra-performance.

You're thinking, instructions for what? Simple printout of where the heatsink tape ought to go (there are multiple chips, yet only two heat sink tape pieces, each a different thickness). Second, which screws are for which purpose. Was easy enough to figure out, but again, simple instructions on a small piece of paper would be helpful. Other than that, it is a nicely made piece.

I bought the official metal case before buying this fan. I knew before hand the fan won't fit within the case, but that I could modify the case to make it fit. But the fan is so noisy that I decided not to use it. Instead fixed a regular small form factor fan on top the case, which works really well.

the fan cant be screwed into the heat sink because the screws are barely too short.

Pros: Quite, helps the SOC under 70 degrees centigrade. Cons: None for what it was designed for
