Review: COMPARISON: Rain Design mStand vs. Lamicall S1 mobile stands - This is a combo review of the Rain Design mStand and the Lamicall S1 stand. Both were purchased for an iPhone 7 Plus that is protected by an Otterbox Symmetry case (which is 0.5” thick according to desertcart details, my digital calipers say 0.45"). I bought the Lamicall S1 first because it was cheaper. It’s a fine stand that will fit phones with cases thicker than 0.5”. It looks nice and does it’s job at an affordable price. What I didn’t like about the S1: There is a gap at the bottom when holding the Symmetry case. This gap causes the bottom-front of the phone to slide forward slightly and the back of the case doesn’t sit flush against the aluminum. In other words, there is a triangle of space between the phone and stand. And when you push the Home button or tap the screen, the phone slides back and forth about a quarter inch. And I didn’t like that the S1 was prone to sliding on my wood table when I tapped the screen. Most normal people would probably be fine with the Lamicall S1, but I’m super picky and wondered if the mStand would be better. For my specific needs, the mStand is a superior product. The mStand is *almost* too tight to hold the 0.5” thick Symmetry case. When I set the encased phone down, it sits just on top of the two rubberized cradles. If push down gently, the Symmetry almost locks into place. There is no gap between the back of the case and the stand so the phone doesn’t slide back and forth when tapping. The mStand is slightly taller, which is neither good nor bad. The finish looks as nice as the S1. The mStand is also noticeably heavier. Between the weight and seemingly better rubber pads on the bottom, the mStand and phone do not slide. I’m keeping both stands. The mStand will sit on my work desk and get the most use. The S1 will live in the kitchen and play music or display recipes. Summary: If you have a phone case thicker than 0.5” you will need to get the Lamicall. It elevates the phone 2.25" at a good angle, doesn't tip, and has a hole in the back for a charging cable. It's on my desk about 2 ft. from my head and Face ID works fine. The phone sits above a partial ledge that channels the bottom speaker sound upward. I'm not an audiophile, but the phone sounds good in the stand.
