Do the metal clips have a plastic “dot” on the skin side or are they flush ?

I don't fully understand the question. The braces are designed to go over a shirt and under a jacket/top. I don't know of anyone who would braces against the skin.

If they can hold up trousers, they will hold up a kilt. They are quite wide with strong clips to secure.

Do the 50mm braces have plastic inserts to protect trousers like the 35mm ones do?

No. They have all metal clips that are very secure and have not damaged any of my trousers.

They were a gift for someone else so unable to measure them.As they are adjustable they fit quite a range.
