Star Trek: The Original Series: The Complete Series

As others have said, this set comes packed with discs stacked on top of each other, so you do need to get a propert storage solution, but recordings on the discs are excellent.

Four things make this collection a must-have for any real fan of the original series. Personally, I rarely ever saw an episode without ads, and most of the time those ads were long and drawn out, ruining the continuity. This collection is a breath of fresh air as it simply flows from one scene to another with the short blackout period in between. No 8 minute commercials making you forget what episode it even is ! In addition since the episodes are in their entirety, and not edited for commercials, the flow of a significant number of them is greatly improved giving more believability to the storyline. When it comes to improved quality, its no doubt that the visual clarity and sound are at their best. 1080 on bluray looks good on a 75 inch all day, while the sound clarity is spot on. In my opinion the improved quality of the special effects and overall picture help to bring a series that originally looked about as realistic as the Batman series from that period up to the quality of a technicolor full length motion from around the same time. Kids growing up right now could appreciate the stories in a show thats 60 years old, and be able to enjoy the picture quality and special effects because theyve been brought up to date. Are the special effects and overall picture quality perfect? No. But they're good enough to improve the overall presentation of this series and bring it into the 21st century. Five Stars.

THIS IS REALLY A GREAT SET. THE PICTURE HAS BEEN DIGITALLY CORRECTED/ENHANCED SO THE "FLAWS" HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND COLORS SEEM MORE VIVID. GREAT TO SEE THE SHOWS I GREW UP ON AGAIN. THIS SET INCLUDES THE VERY FIRST EPISODE WITH JEFFREY HUNTER AS CAPTAIN PIKE. THERE IS ALSO HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES.

I have been wanting the original series for ever. Never bought them though. Amazon had these for the right price and I snagged 'em. The quality is unbelievable! I don't know how they make these old shows look so good but I am flabbergasted. There are both version of each episode too. You can watch each episode as it was made or you can watch them remastered with CGI graphics in them. I am very impressed. I wish the packaging was just a little better because there are like 3 disks on each side so you have to pull two out to get to the one on the bottom but it is what it is. The menus have a navigation on them so there is a fair amount of clicking to advance to the next episode. I think there are 5 episodes to each disk. There didn't seem to be a way to just hit play and let them all just play through. Other than that I am very happy and impressed with how well these are done. I love the old Star Trek. I recommend these.

The hi-def restoration on this show has been impeccable. 7.1 audio is truly immersive (if you have the setup for it) and the picture quality is virtually flawless. The new special effects lend a richer sense of realism and credibility to the episodes, the kind of thing that simply could not have been done during this show's air dates. However, the case is the worst I have ever come across for any blu-ray collection. Note in the attached picture, there are a lot of discs that are crammed into a relatively small package; discs are stacked on top of each other on rigid spindles and the "pages" of discs do not "turn" easily. Worst of all, the discs are extremely difficult to remove from their spindles; I am constantly afraid I am going to snap or warp (no pun intended) a disc when I try to remove one, not to mention the others underneath. It is so bad that I am looking into replacing the case with a simple, 2000's-style CD wallet. Not exactly the kind of thing you'd proudly display in your collection. It is truly unfortunate. Buyer beware: you'll love watching the show in 1080p, but the case is HORRIBLE, to say the least.

The quality of the vids are great, but the packaging is awful. It has the disks arranged in " pages" which you flip through with like 2 disks on each spindle ( easy to damage or scratch). I am putting these disks in a 5 X 7 photo album ( from Amazon) that has a white cloth like backing on each sleeve (48 sleeves) in disk numerical order, and scanning and printing the insert to mount on the photo case. It is highly unlikely i will scratch or break a disk trying to remove it from the spindle. I have a few more multi disk DVD sets that i will likely do the same with.

Great series and all the stories are interesting, the colors very vibrant, great characters and quality production. Hard to believe some of the actors had some animosity swords each other!

ALL THINGS STAR TREK.......You can't go wrong!!! The original series on DVD AND UPDATED BLU-RAY! I'm in 7th heaven! The only drawback.....ALL of the disks are in ONE BOX sitting on top of each other...so Be Careful when accessing the disks to prevent scratches!!!! As Dr. McCoy once said..."I choose the danger!"

Just to avoid confusion the Star Trek original series blu ray box set pictured in the blue box plays in the UK. I have just tested it in a UK version Playstation 5 and it looks super nice. It contains both the as aired special effects and the updated special effects version. I did read that the recent updated special effects versions had deleted dialogue ( possibly updated political correctness?) so you may want to play the original blu ray versions, or toggle between the two. So this should play in certainly Region B ( UK Europe) and maybe other regions

First time buying from Amazon Japan. It arrived sooner than I expected!

Excellent remade CGI effects - takes the original series to new heights!
