What are the pin connections on each side?

It's supposed to be usb to firewire, but it doesn't work. The second you plug it in to connect your old iPod, it says not enough energy to work. Don't buy it.

Will this work with a external Firewire dvd drive plugged to USB port?

No don't buy it it is trash. Does not work at all. Not even as a paper wait.

Is this unit easy to use?

If that’s the usb adaptor, which I bought several years ago, yes it is easy to use, but it doesn’t work. Useless.

there's no chip in it, This doesn't not actually convert a darn thing. I don't know, but I think it connects the signal lines to usb so one Could program or create firewire stuff over usb...
