Is this appropriate for polishing fine silver jewelry? Is it too big or rough for something like a small detailed ring?

Yes, I would say it would be fine. I polish my silver bracelets with this brush, but if the rings have stones, you are probably going to be disappointed. It would be difficult to polish the inside of the ring. I have several of these brushes for different jobs. They are great on any detailed surface...carved leather headstalls and saddles, fine wood carving...either as a dry dust brush or with lemon oil...and of course nearly all sliver applications.

Does this work without silver polish for polishing silver ?

Not when new. However, with residue from previous polishing, it tends to help cleaning. This is one of the better brushes I've used. Good luck.

Can this be used with liquids as a laundry stain remover?

Yes horse hair is good for stain removal. however use for darks only . Do not use for tamping if you need a brush for stain removal i suggest looking up newhouse specialty. As that is the brand most drycleaing and laundry industry use

Is this anti scratching?

Hi Tom, I wouldn't say "anti-scratching", but rather non-abrasive or non-scratching. These brushes are quite soft, yet are stiff enough to reach detailed areas. I must have six of them by now and use them for many applications. I highly recommend these brushes.
