Ok, it's just a novelty. But it's a very good one. I have it on my office desk, and passerbys are constantly sticking their head in the door to stare at it. The kids can't get enough of it. It's incredible how many kids and adults have never heard of magnetic levitation. And how many ask how it gets its power? You would think that in this day and age, everybody would be used to wireless power, but no! You can cover the base with a piece of paper, making it even more mysterious. You are not going to light up the room with this lightbulb, but that is not the intent. It's meant to mesmerize and fascinate all ages. And it does its job quite well.

This product is unreal. I mean seriously cool. It is made of very high quality materials and it is very durable feeling. But the icing on the cake is all the compliments I get when people see it in my office. It is such a cool item and I am an engineer, so it takes a lot for me to be impressed. It has worked perfect since I bought it. Not one glitch, power failure, loss of lite, etc. Its just been a great quality product.

As with any magnetic floating item, it takes a few minutes to get balanced on the center of the base to have it start floating. Despite the directions showing to use two hands placed on each side of the metal part on the bottom of the bulb to attempt to set it into position, instead, it’s much, much easier to use one hand holding the bulb at its top and then slowly lower it down towards the center of the base. Something the directions don’t mention is that you’ll want to plug the base in first and turn the power button on for the light. That way, once you’ve lowered the bulb down to the correct height it will make a slight buzzing noise and light up. That’s when you know you’ve positioned it centered and at the right height. I bought this to replace a little cheaper version from a different brand, which that one was literally impossible to make work as the center of the base was not marked at all and the magnet was way too strong. The magnet on this one is designed perfectly and there’s a mark on the center of the base to show you where to align the bulb with above it, which is mandatory to get it to work. It rotates as it floats. If possible, position it on a shelf at eye level so it can be seen directly at its side profile. That way it looks the best, as you can directly see the floating effect with the space between the bulb and the base, which is much better looking than if it’s sitting on a desk or table and you’re looking directly down upon it.

Cool little light for the desk. More for show than lighting the room.

A little expensive for what it is, but my son totally loves it. The light it pretty dim, so it’s more of a novelty item than a light source. Overall, it definitely meets our expectations!
