The Dark Tower 8-Book Boxed Set

This was a gift for my husband and he did not ask For this set so he was not already sold on the series. But he has now read almost the whole series and is hooked on it. He was very impressed with the series!

Good quality bindings. Nice font and nice sized pages for a paperback - easy to read.

Disclaimer: I am a HUGE Stephen King fan. That being said, I will write this review as non-bias as I can. Firstly, this series was absolutely incredible. It is not the typical Stephen King read (I.e., the series blends horror, science fiction, western, and thriller). It took me a bit of time to get through (you are definitely signing up for quite the task when purchasing this box set) but I am so happy that I decided to put in the time to read it. This is definitely a weird one (which is typical Stephen King fashion) and my recommendation would be not to immediately write it off. It is a LONG story with A LOT of moving parts, pieces, and story lines, which will fully blend together to paint a beautiful and incredible plot. The first book is a short, easy read and will leave you wanting more. Before starting, I read other reviews on this series saying how it was confusing or slow (which arguably can said about any long series at points) and I do not at all agree with these reviews. It can be confusing if you do not pay attention (again, this can be said about any series) and can be "slow" if you are not involved in the elaborate journey being laid out before you (I.e., if you are only focused on the present journey, as opposed to the multiple timelines/worlds/stories all being woven together to paint a complete picture). This is a must for any SK fan and a recommended read for those wanting to go down on a long, elaborate journey, being drawn in by the multidimensional characters and fantasy worlds.

I already have all the books but I've pieced them together over the years so not only are they different sizes but now they are older and very well-read so they were getting tattered. I was so happy to find this set of books and for an affordable price. Look great on the shelf and I can't wait to start reading them.

Vintage Stephen King wrapped into the Dark Tower universe - a life long endeavor for King the stories were at time compelling and at times egocentric. Overall, worth reading for serious dark fantasy fans.

It may seem a bit strange to leave a review for an eight book set when you've only read three of them, but I'm at the point where I can be sure I'll read the other five without question. If you are a fan of Steven King and haven't read most of the books yet, buy this set. If you haven't read Stephen King before, check out Salem's Lot, Pet Semetary, or the Stand to see if you like his writing style. So far, everything you might like about King is in these books but so are the things you might not like. The first book was a little tough to read because it was written roughly. The climax of the book seemed a bit like nonsense, but that didn't bother me too much because it was written by King at a very young age and he obviously had enough of a vision for the story to write eight more of them. The second book was better than the first from the beginning, and was completely enthralling. Roland's quest for the Dark Tower is fantastic. I understand why he didn't, but I think the Dark Tower series would be more well known if King had rewritten the first novel completely from scratch instead of just editing it for rerelease.

This series is iconic - wonderful story(s) as we follow our hero through his journey - as you progress through the books it will be hard to put them down - long days and pleasant nights!
