It's perfect for detailed sketching and also if you are into technical drawings. The grip is excellent, and I've got it for a reasonable discount. And it comes with erasers, too.

The build quality of the Pentel Graph Gear 1000 is outstanding. It’s solid, precise, and the retractable tip is a brilliant feature that protects the lead and keeps it pocket-friendly. However, the grip itself, which is made of a silicone-like material over metal, feels too thin and isn’t comfortable for extended use. On top of that, the metal body of the pencil makes it a bit heavy, so it can get tiring after a while. If you like a slim feel and don’t mind the extra weight, this will be a winner for you, but for me, I have to look for a mechanical pencil with a chunkier better cushioned grip for my comfort.

Build is good all metal.. The length is more moving center of gravity more towards upper side.. I was expecting it to have shock absorbed for the lead to avoid breakage of lead.. But it's not there..

This is actually crazy, but I didn't believe the hype, I just needed a drafting pencil. Since using this, I have discovered new meaning to life, got inspiration to create, and basically elevated my intelligence. There can be only one. And this is the one!

really good pencil for the price, nice weight and feel to it

This is my absolute favorite pencil as an artist, and the only one I've used for quite a few years. I got one in high school and used it for four years, until I was a college sophomore. It stood up to daily note taking and drawing for four years. In the end, the only flaw in this pencil is the plastic seam, since that is what broke. Still, four years is an exceptionally long time for one pencil to last, especially since it is the only one I used for those four years. I purchased a second one right after the first one broke, and that one is still in excellent condition a year later. This is an excellent pencil for any artist, but has been especially wonderful for me, as someone with bad joints. The grip is bigger than a standard mechanical pencil, so it isn't as painful to write for long periods of time, and the silicone ovals make it easy to keep your grip on it. Retracting the tip of the pencil with the clip is a unique feature of this pencil, and honestly a bit of a fun party trick. People are always surprised by it. I have never had problems with the clip wearing out or breaking, and since the tip is retractable, I haven't had it break or bend either.
