The product description implies that it is a four bay SATA module with the capability of performing stand-alone (no PC required) media erasure or secure erasure. This is important for SATA SSDs, since you cannot degauss them. The secure erase is done with a simple SATA command that instructs the drive itself to wipe data. Unfortunately, the secure erase is limited to only bay number four. If you have multiple drives to wipe it is faster to just connect the unit to a PC via USB, then issue the SATA commands to each drive to initiate the secure wipe. But this is definitely not "stand-alone" usage. I find this odd - any use case that would require 3:1 disk cloning often enough to need a stand-alone duplicator would likely also need to secure erase multiple drives as well. I believe this is suitable for home or very small office use only, but those users would find a two bay unit to be more cost effective

This device is way overpriced. Originally I bought it to secure erase my hard drives, but what the description does not tell you is the following: 1. Even though it's 4 bays, you can only do secure erase one drive at a time 2. Not all drives can do secure erase 3. There's no progress bar 4. When the secure erase is complete, it will set off a siren and you have to be there to press the button to turn it off The secure erase took a long time. I erased a 500GB hard drive and it took over 24 hours, whereas when I used a software program (DoD 32x) it took about 4 hours.

Not an actual drive eraser, does not perform erasing on its own accord, requires a connected computer with an erase utility for this function. False advertising, possibly, as it is billed as an "eraser." Look elsewhere for this standalone functionality.

We have been using this for over a year and it has worked flawlessly doing production work in a financial institution. We clone hard drives weekly and when doing PC refreshes dozens a day. Our only complaint is the speed, it could be faster especially since we are using SSD drives and the beeping when it is complete. We don't stand over it waiting for the process to finish and getting calls because there is an alarm in the computer room and the disruption to nearby staff is annoying.

Very Fast. Does its job, but the buttons are attached to the display, so when you push the buttons, the display feels like it is moving in. I was alarmed at first that it may have been broken, but it works.

Cloning made easy. Haven't used the PC mode but the regular cloning is great. Only thing is I wish is when it's done the beeping would stop. It doesn't stop so keep that in mind.

I use one of these at work. We manage over 2000 workstations. We use this all the time to create a new image and copy it. When I started one bay was dead, we were still using it. Shortly after the whole unit died. We had used it for 13 months. I call startech and found out it comes with a two year warranty. I sent them proof of purchase, they sent a RMA. Two Weeks later I had a new unit. They we're helpful and got right on things. The one issue I have found with this type of device is that the HDD or SSD have to be the same size or they will not work.

Marvelous job has done with this great ( not cheap ) technical marvel. On the end, it copies all what I have wished without problems. I AM ONLY SORRY THAT I HAVE NOT BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT LONG AGO. It works, but it seems a bit slow regarding larger disks.. It copies bits with approximately 90Mb/s, and for a disk with 750GB it took for us about 2 hours and 40 minutes, with one source and 3 target disks.
