Mosquito Net Hammock Cover - Best for Camping by Bear Butt

I see some hammocks that have a screen over the top, but that still allows bugs to bite you through the hammock itself and it does happen. Using this net works great. It took me maybe 10 extra minutes to setup beyond the hammock. I used another brand hammock and no issues.

This works as advertised. The only problem that became apparent is the proximity of a sleeper's body to the net when stretched out in the hammock. This isn't the bug net's fault, per se. It's just the way the net hangs down around the hammock. I tried a couple things but never found a good way to avoid the problem other than making sure a blanket and the hammock fabric was between my arms and the net (to make it as hard as possible for biting insects at those spots). I tested this for 5 days on the Appalachian trail but bugs were not prolific during the time I used it. However, I did note it blocked everything from bees to smaller gnat-sized insects. I also liked the built in stuff sack.Things I would change about this:-The string method of hanging this takes longer than I'd like in downpours (i.e. you get soaked trying to put it up in rain). I'm not sure there is a perfect answer to this, but anything that could make a quick zip-tie-like attachment to a tree would be a big improvement.-It would be nice if this could stay attached to the Bear-Butt hammock and still fit in the stuff sack (for those previously mentioned downpour situations).

It's on the small side. At only 10', long hammocks like my 12'+/- just don't fit without stretching the mesh. The workmanship & quality-feel of this net seems to be awesome though.... & not even counting the awesome co. name (e.g. the reason why I chose this net over others I'd looked at). Unfortunately, I'll have to look to another provider, as this net just isn't long enough to fit my needs, but I'd encourage others to consider it for theirs, given my initial impression of it!

I have used this bug net a few times now for overnight camping in the woods of Wisconsin. It is plenty big for my Bear Butt Double Hammock, the zipper is convenient and zips very well, and the suspension system works very well with the ridgeline.The one downside is the ridgeline paracord just isn't long enough. It needs to be another 3 or 4 feet to really be able to tie it from tree to tree just like your hammock straps. I have ended up tying one end to my hammock strap just above where the hammock connects to it, and the other end to the tree the mock is on.

Easy to use/easy to store. Packs just like a hammock into it's own pocket. Slip in on one end of the hammock and tighten the ties in place. Two zippers for preferred opening. Good quality too. Haven't been bit yet! I'd expect nothing less from Bear Butt.

This product works great I just wish it was longer. The string provided to hang the bug net is nowhere near long enough. The string is so small that you will definitely need to bring paracord of your own. The rain fly itself is longer than the string used to hang the bug net. Once you get it set up it works great. Wish there was more room in the bug net towards the ends of the hammock.

I also own the hammock and kodiak straps, and would definitely recommend those as well. Some people may be able to go without the bug net depending on where you live and what time of year you use it, but it is very useful to have. The kodiak straps are a must. I waited a long time to get them and once I did wished I had done so sooner.

I took the Bear Butt bug net on a camping trip in the Everglades this March, and upon affixing it to my hammock (very first use) I noticed a 1 inch tear near the top-seam of the net.Having even a small tear in your bug net while sleeping outdoors in the Everglades is less than ideal. I was chewed up pretty bad by mosquitoes and no-see-ums.If not for the defect in mine, this bug net is still “just OK”. The plastic clips along the top of the net for attaching to a ridge line are cheap and can easily break or come loose. Pack weight and size were fine.In conclusion, I went in on this bug net because I have a rain fly from Bear Butt which has served me well the last few years. This bug net didn’t last one night. I’ll be looking for a different net before my next trip.

I tried this big net out for the first time and was very impressed! My campsite was very buggy but this net really kept them out of my hammock. It’s also longer than other options which is great as my hammock is on the longer side. Would definitely recommend. Just be aware that the rope it comes with isn’t the longest- I had to use my own longer rope but this is an easy fix.
