Best value for playing non-US DVD's on US TV's!
I bought the Impecca DVHP9117 DVD player for one purpose: I needed to play British DVD's (Region 2, PAL format European disks) on my US (NTSC) home television. For that purpose this little player is an absolute best buy. It automatically detects and plays both NTSC and PAL format disks, and it can output either NTSC and PAL signals to your TV. (As delivered it defaults to NTSC output, so no setup is needed for US users.) Furthermore, it is a "Region 0" player, which means it can play disks from all over the world even if they are coded for use only in certain areas. I've used my Impecca player for a year now. The Impecca is a small, lightweight box, but the electronics and mechanical internals have outlasted the much more expensive Sony and LG players which preceded it. If you are still concerned about longevity, Amazon offers very inexpensive extended warranty plans. Product support is excellent. After my purchase I asked Impecca's customer service a specific question about the Regional support I mentioned above. The support representative gave me a very honest, "I don't know" reply, but within 24 hours I got an email from one of their engineers answering my question. I agree with other reviews that the remote is both small and oddly configured, which means that I had to put on my reading glasses to use it. But my solution was to rummage through my junk drawer for an old programmable universal remote -- the kind where you point the Impecca remote at the universal remote, then press "learn" on the universal to program the keys. (The "universal" remote was actually from an old, defunct Samsung television.) Once everything was set, the Impecca remote went into the drawer... This is a solid DVD player with some very useful special features at an excellent price. Now, if Impecca will just come out with a Blu-ray version, I'm ready to buy!

Very user friendly player and remote!
Easy to hook-up, easy to use. Great picture quality and sound. The buttons on the player appear sleek and have a quality feel to them, and they work well. The remote buttons are larger than many with a refreshing simplicity. Very user friendly! The remote may not have the most elegant or high tech look, but it has a clean look, and it is very easy to use. It would be a perfect remote for anyone who is tired of dealing with remotes filled with too many tiny buttons.

It's a pretty good machine it handles much as i can throw at it. It plays DVD's & CD's just fine. It plays DVD-R's fine and since i don't use DVD+R i assume it works as well. Unfortunately i tried dual layer DVD+RDL one of my backup movies and it doesn't work but i have tried dual layer data disc and it works just fine. So dual layer disc as DVD video doesn't work but it can be used as a data disc and it will boot up with no problems. Now a big plus for this machine is that it can play digital music and video files, which is good because most of my entertainment stuff is digital. MP3 files work just fine and AVI files play just fine however i tried playing MP4 files and it dosen't work so i was a little disappointed with that. I like the fact though you can play digital files through USB or on a DVD or CD so i like that feature. I tested it's composite cable and HDMI and it works just fine. So overall i like the machine, I bought it for my grandma because we need a DVD player for the living room and she likes it. Only a couple compatibility issues with Recordable Dual layer DVD video disc & MP4 files which i hope they improve in the future but its still a good machine and i recommend it to anyone.

I'd buy it again!
Simple to hook up. Our smart TV recognized it even when it wasn't on its favorites list. Which means that it can be found and you don't have to spend mega dollars on one and can still play everything except blue ray. You can even plug a thumb drive into it to see stored pictures. It's 1/4 of the size of our old one and does more, all for $35. For that price if it goes out or becomes obsolete in a year you can simply replace it. It does not come with a HDMI cable so make sure you have one. Many smart TVs don't work well with two sets of video audio cables. Our TV only accepted one set and we still have a old VCR, and lots of tapes!

Won't play videos on USB port
This is a good DVD/CD player. But I am disappointed because the USB port doesn't play any format of video. I tried MEPG, AVI, MP4, FLV, none of them will play in this unit. I spoke to their customer service. The USB port only reads pictures (jpeg) or music. I can't figure why you would make a video machine, then add a USB port that does not read video. It does have a good picture when I used the store bought DVDs. It just won't read the ones I made with my computer. Also the remote has a complicated layout and it is difficult to read. It has tiny gray buttons with tiny cream color print. I need a flashlight and magnifying glasses to read it. The volume control buttons are where the fast forward buttons should be. Not very intelligently designed. It's just another okay DVD/CD player . Oh, with a picture reader...

Quality product at a good price
I am really enjoying this DVD player. Setup was a breeze - plug into HDMI cable from TV and insert a DVD. The picture quality is very good and can be adjusted in the settings. The sound can be turned up nice and loud. I love the slow motion feature as I watch dance videos. The remote is a good size, and all the buttons can be easily identified without having to use a magnifier. I have tremors and have not hit a wrong button yet. I have not had reason to use the other features offered with this player. I believe I got a good deal - quality product at a good price.

Product works well. Remote control must be pointed very accurately to work. I like the USB input for displaying photos downloaded from my PC.
