Can I freeze dry candy with this machine?

Unfortunately, you'd need to purchase a freeze dryer to do that. This is strictly dehydration only. If you're looking to long storage fruit candy from dehydrator, just dehydrate fruit (strawberries) add a lil confectioners sugar, then vacuum seal & put in freezer. We do & it keeps forever.

Could I use this outside, or are there holes on the outsides of the machine?

I've had some problems with this. Don't know whether it's me, or the dehydrator. But I would say no to using this outside, no holes, just screens on each layer. Good luck !

Other dehydrators have timers that go up to 72 hours and this only goes up to 24 hours, is that a serious limitation for dehydrating food?

I make chicken dog treats, 10 hours is more than enough time. My old one took 2 days to make. Love my Magic Mill
