King Lear (Cambridge School Shakespeare)

Advantages: Well laid out, language is clear, plot development is clear. Goes well with recent BBC production w/ Anthony Hopkins (on Amazon). Disadvantages: None

Perfect for school use and came in perfect condition!

It is a well made full text version of the play with some well needed reference information. I don't find the extensive exercises and discussion topics to be useful at all. I think these observations are true for the whole series from Cambridge.

It’s abridged! Scenes missing. Shameful. No reason for doing this, and no warning on the cover. The fact that it is a school edition does not imply it is abridged, many study editions are not.

Bought one "used, like new", and it was. Just what I need for school as it has the info on the other side of the page, it was also supposed to arrive on Monday but arrived the Friday before :) (for Nottingham in Uk)

シェイクスピアの戯曲を英語のテクストで勉強する際の、一番最初の入門書としては凄く良いと思う。ページごとにざっとした粗筋が書いてあるし、見開き右ページにはテクストが、左ページには色々なパフォーマンスの写真や、その場面で重要なテーマ等が解説されていて分かりやすい。 ただ、大学の英語ネイティブスピーカーの教授曰く、これの本来のレベルは高校生だそうなので、大学の学部生レベルはThe New Cambridge Shakespeare のシリーズになるらしい。 とはいえ、初めてリア王を学ぶ身としては平易な英語で解説の書いてある本書は非常に役に立った。

This series of Cambridge Shakespeare is great for students and teachers. The notes and additional information throughout is useful for understanding the text and context in which Shakespeare is writing. Clear layout of the play making it easy to read. Arrived quickly and in excellent condition as expected.

Bought for my son's school curriculum and it was cheaper than anywhere else. Big book too. He got an A in his advanced higher and Dux for English at the end of the year, so it must have worked!
