Excellent thermometer, fast response - test data included
For some reason, I find myself often needing to measure the temperature of various liquids and solids? How fast does my diet Pepsi cool in the freezer? How hot is the water coming out of my faucet? Interesting data has been gleaned from using this product. For example, in a top loading washer, the thermal mass of the metal and clothes in a top loading washer drops about 20 degrees from the 140 that is dispensed -- leading to a 40 degree shortfall from a commercial washer. While useful for various fun tasks around the house, chefs will appreciate the vary rapid response of the pointed tip. The CDN is clearly superior to an inexpensive thermometer I previous purchased from Walmart. In a laboratory setting, accuracy is important. While my needs are not that stringent, I did want to test within the limited resources at my disposal, including my IR thermometer. So, I test it along with the IR thermometer with three different liquids: 1)water/green tea cooling from boiling temp 2) Polmos rectified spirits - 96% alcohol from freezer 3) Olive oil heated in an oven. In order to somewhat scientific, I avoided ambient air movement and took measurements in a corner of room separate from any radiating heat. This conditions would NOT pass NIST standards but I tried anyway. Results below. Conditions: 1) CDN was used to aggressively mix fluid so no surface temperature differences 2) Ambient light and air movement avoided 3) Insulating potholder used to rest glasses 4) Ambient temperature approximately 70-72 degrees All results in Fahrenheit Concentrated green tea in 1000ml pyrex Date: 12/11/2012 Time .... Very VERY good
Bought this in Sep of 2011 - writing this review after SEVEN years in Sep 2018. It has been very reliable & accurate. Still has original battery. Only problem is since a few months ago, the push button to turn it on/off doesn't work reliably - I can eventually get it to come on, but it's not easy. (It's not the battery - I think it's the button not making the proper contact to the circuit board - haven't tried to take it apart, not sure if can). I ordered a different thermometer to replace it that had foldable tip thinking it might be better for certain situations - like bbq grill: with this one that's got immovable straight probe, and needing to be in the meat 5-6 seconds to get reading, can be too hot for the hand to keep in place. But, the cheap foldable tip one I got worked for 1 day. So, I'm thinking about buying another one of these.... But, first, I decided to see if I might be able to fix - used an exacto knife on the top and found the black CDN with cutouts peels off (adhesive - not hard to remove and still sticky enough to re-use) which reveals the assembly with 6 tiny phillips screws (pic 1); removed with precision driver, which reveals circuit board attached with 4 screws and 4 wires soldered to the board (the thermocouple and battery). Removed the 4 screws - the power and C/F buttons are separate, the 3 bottom buttons 1 assembly - so I just switched the C/F and power buttons figuring the carbon tip on power worn. But, wasn't paying enough attention, and the LCD just fell off. Wasn't too obvious how contact is made electrically to the circuit board, and then the red power wire came off the circuit board as I was moving things around - got out soldering iron and put it back, reassembled everything, and much to my surprise, the thermometer works! The power button works reliably and the C/F button works too.....!!!

Esta muy bien de precio y cumple con las espectativas que tenia. Sobre todo esta muy bien que la sonda lleve su propia funda.

This is the best compromise I could find between quality and price. The famous thermapen is better, but way pricier. This one will read in about 5 seconds and I like the small tip compared to other thermometers of the same price. So far it's been a top performer without breaking the bank. UPDATE: Over two years later, I'm ordering a 2nd one. The first one finally gave up the ghost after the outdoor punishment I put on it (frost, rain, etc). And it was still on the original battery. I learned to really appreciate how the screen is oriented so I don't have to read it from the side like with other thermometers. I regularly tested it against a pot of boiling water and it was always accurate. All kitchens should have a quick read thermometer.

Product was delivered to us promptly. Works great in fact we use to cook turkeys in the oven by guessing and cutting into the turkey. It would often overcook because we didn't want any issues with it and get sick. Using this thermometer we now get moist turkeys that are cooked all the way through. No more dried out meats.
