You can't totally reset it, but it gives a nice indicator of total hours and has an adjustable maintenance reminder. It took less than five minutes to set up. I made five loops around the plug wire, and it started sensing immediately. The user manual could use some better translation. I'd suggest having a couple extra zip ties on hand, but maybe you're more graceful than I am. Can't give an estimation of battery life yet, but I can verify that removing the battery does not "lose" your hour count.

**Q: What are the ppr? i need it set to 2 since it’s reading double my rpm**
A: We think you would like to know how to set the engine firing patterns(the default value is 1P1R) to adjust the RPM accuracy, which suitable to gas engine type 4 stroke 2 cylinder or 2 stroke 1 cylinder, so first you must sure what's the type of your engine then switch the 1P1R to followed 1P2R,2P1R......according to the comparison form into user manual, another important thing that's the signal wire must 5-8 circles on the spark plug.

**Q: can the signal wire be extended?**
A: Yes you can splice a wire on to it make the signal wire longer.

**Q: Should I wrap the pickup wire around the head of the ignition coil or the spark plug wire (4 stroke)?**
A: Around The wire near the boot on the plug

**Q: Does hour meter count only the hours the motor is ACTUAL running?**
A: yes. the TOT hours will count when machine is running. but it will display when machine is off, and the RPM value will be displayed when machine is on.

Simple, nearly idiot proof and works. You can't totally reset it, but it gives a nice indicator of total hours and has an adjustable maintenance reminder. It took less than five minutes to set up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Would not turn on!

Upon arrival customer/user should remove the battery cover and pull out the plastic shield protecting battery then reinstall battery, which I did. The display is supposed to turn on by pressing either button, but it did not. You don't have to have the wire wrapped around the sparkplug for it to receive a signal to turn on. You are supposed to be able to turn it on and off at any time before hooking to spark plug wire to set it to your specific engine -2 stroke, 4 stroke and other settings, but would not turn on at all and I checked the battery with a multimeter, registered 3.2 volts so the battery was working, plus I had already tried 2 different batteries but not turning on. No display. And I have seen out of the box reviews on this same unit, they are supposed to turn on after properly installing the battery, right out of the box, then you can set them. They don't need to be connected to anything to work, that's why they come with a battery. ****************** Updating my review of the product there is something that blocks the battery from making contact while in storage, or shipping that you will have to remove so I'm changing my complete review of the product. Everything works as it should. It was just a user error, lol
