Excellent soya
Excellent texture and taste. Since it’s certified organic, it’s a much healthier alternative to the other available soya. Very easy to make too.

These soya chunks are fantastic. They sit in the cupboard until wanted, then a quick soak in boiling water or stock and they’re ready to use. They hold their shape in stir-fries and casseroles and have a pleasant taste. They also pick up the flavour of the foods they are cooked with. On top of that, they are healthier and cheaper than meat and cook quicker. They just contain partly defatted soybeans so are safe for coeliacs, vegetarians, vegans and people with delicate digestions, except those allergic to soya.

As a vegan who hates tofu, this was a great protein alternative I’ve found. It’s very versatile and I mostly use it in stir fry’s, because the sauce sticks to the outside well and the chunks absorb the flavour nicely. I would recommend squeezing the remaining liquid out of the soy chunks once you’ve rehydrated them, so they aren’t soggy when you cook them. They cook much better when most of the liquid is squeezed out.

You have to pour boiling water over these and leave for ten minutes before using. My mother bought a pack on my recommendation and forgot to do this – not to be recommended apparently! You can then use them like Quorn chunks or I suppose like chicken chunks. When cooked they have quite a soft texture that's somewhere between Quorn and tofu. They don't really have their own flavour (or not much) but do take on the flavours of whatever you're cooking. I think they are a very good alternative to Quorn and perfectly pleasant to eat. On the pack it says 20g (when dried) is one portion and this seems about right, so this is ten servings and not bad value. Gluten free and vegan of course.

I used to get the frozen soy pieces from Morrisons own brand. It could still be available in store but I only get it through deliveries and haven’t seen it for awhile. I ordered this an an alternative and it’s much better. I love throwing them in with instant noodles or with some Korean gochugang sauce. It’s so easy to store as it’s dehydrated. Perfect for taking camping etc.

Do not like the chunks in terms of texture and it doesn’t absorb flavor as well as their mince product. The SOYA mince by this company is the best!
