Great for homeschool!
I am a public school teacher turned homeschool mom, and I love these books! My 5 year old is reading on an end of first grade level and we have used these books every step of the way. What I love is that my child uses the skills that are taught in these books, and is able to apply them in his other reading. These books are so good to introduce one or two skills/sounds at a time, but continue to spiral in previously taught skills/sounds in later books. I really like these nonfiction books. It’s easy to come across a fiction book that will keep your child’s interest. But non-fiction is typically more of a struggle. However, my son has loved every single book in this set! I am very happy! There’s also a book that comes with this set that has comprehension questions for your child to answer. I try to ask more than what’s given in the comprehension book. But, the comprehension book gives a good base if you might be unsure of where to start or what to ask.

Perfect for my son who is entering first grade this year.
My son is a very picky reader. His kindergarten teacher said that he was a reading level E and I wanted to find him some books that he could read on his own easily. He also LOVES science. These books are a huge hit with him. He can read all of them, (even the F books) relatively easily. We got them yesterday and he has been reading them all day. I woke up to him reading the Chameleons book to his father this morning. I have bought so many level 1 and 2 readers in the past to try to encourage my son to read. He likes the DK dinosaur level readers but hasn't really taken to anything else. These guided readers are much better for young readers in my opinion. The structure is simpler and they encourage younger readers because they are can easily sound out any words that they do not know. There are also not too many words on each page. My son also loves that they are non-fiction. I highly recommend these books. I am so glad that we found them. Also, just to note because I saw other reviewers complain about the binding being thread- ours are bound with staples, not thread. We ordered directly from Amazon and not a third party.

Great series for the beginning reader
This past fall my 6-year old niece began working on reading in earnest. I gave her the "A" series of these books, and she ate them up. She would corral anyone who would listen, sit them down, and read through the entire series to them. She seemed to be so taken with these that I started to get her a new series every couple of weeks, and by Christmas she was up to series "F". She loves these little books, and takes good care of them, keeping them in their box -- in order -- when she's not reading them. And they've helped her reading skills to where she's now up to Dr. Seuss books. I've started sending the same series to my friend's kid, who recently turned six, with the same result -- she loves them. The author clearly knows what attracts young children to reading. Recommended.

Awesome for beginning readers!
These are a great set for your nonfiction lover. I am an elementary teacher and bought these for my son who is learning to read. They are a great set and he loves reading them. There is a follow up work book that he enjoys filling out too. If your child loves nonfiction and is learning to read, buy them!

Perfect for kindergarten independent reading!
I LOVE these books! They are easy to read with exciting photographs and interesting non-fiction topics like plants, animals and weather These books are perfect for my "Reader's Cafe" where my students will be reading independently on their instructional level. I solved the problem of the "flimsy sewed binding" by reinforcing the spine of the book with clear packing tape. I am looking forward to seeing my students engaged and exciting about reading! Thank you Scholastic.

Worth every penny.
These books are wonderful, we started at A books and worked up to G-h. They made it much easier to teach my son to read so I would say worth every penny. These books focus on all the same things the teacher is teaching at the 1st grade level so for me they were spot on. I would say Kinder to maybe second grade would benefit from this line of books depending on the strength of your reader.
