Solar Panel Tool

At first I did not think i need this item -- but ordered it just in case and glad I did. Yes, you could get along without this tool and you will be disappointed when you find out it is all plastic. You could use a screw driver and pliers but when you use this simple tool it will go faster and easier and will not scare up your fittings. They will end up in the bottom of my tool box and probably never use them again, but it was a handy tool -- you get two, but only need one, so, I think because they are made of plastic, the second one is your back up, just in case? Worked great, quick and easy.

For two tools, they are a great price and they are the only tool that is spaced close enough to work on the MC4 connector of my panels. Even though the plastic tabs can break (one of my first two did break), it is nice that the tabs bend a little so you can fit them in you connector if the spacing isn't exactly perfect. For the price, they are great.

These wrenches do not fit all MC4 connectors. I purchased MC4 connectors on Amazon Prime and the these wrenches. The wrenches slipped on the gland nut when trying to assemble and tighten the connectors. They slipped so badly that I could hand tighten tighter than with the wrenches. I was all ready to return the wrenches when I realized that Renogy makes MC4 connectors as well. So I purchased a pack of the Renogy connectors, and the wrenches fit perfectly on them. The Renogy connectors use a gland nut that has lobes similar to torx which provides a great means for engaging the tool to the nut. So the wrench does not slip on the nut at all when tightening. I knocked off a star only because I think there should have been a note in the product description that these wrenches are for Renogy connectors and may not work on other MC4 connectors. I was misled by the product description that MC4 was a standard and this wrench would fit all MC4 connectors. On a side note, the Renogy connectors seem a little bit better quality than the other connectors that I purchased, and the contact material appears to have a better silver coating. Anyway, Hope this helps steer you away from making my mistake. I am pretty new to the many manufacturers of solar products that are available, but my experience with Renogy has been positive so far.

The basic solar connector provides a secure, waterproof connection between solar panels and external wiring. If you need to disconnect them, it can be a challenge. This tool makes it pretty easy. That's my primary use for this tool. I keep one in the battery box I charge with solar panels. Once I'm done and breaking down the setup, having this tool available makes the job much easier. I typically do not assemble solar connectors onto cables, but this tool would make that much easier also. Sure, you could grab the nut with pliers and tighten, but you run the risk of slipping and damaging the connector. One of these holds the body securely as you use the other to tighten the nut. No risk of damaging the connector, no slip, and no leaks. It's the right tool for the job.

I used on of the two twice. Worked perfectly the first time. Broke on the second use!!! It's a shame Renogy is willing to put their name on this product. I want to say everything Renogy is top notch but it is not true. Too Bad!!!!!

They work for break very easily Go with the metal ones but they do do the job but you have to be very careful not to break them

This worked great for disconnecting solar panels while working from the roof. Once you get the proper angle, it will be easy to use this tool. Also having two was good because I ended up dropping one and used the other that was in my pocket.

If you are going to be connecting and disconnecting MC4 connectors this tool is well worth the small price. It comes as a 2 pack. The plastic is a very hard resin type and worked great for me. I had around a dozen connectors that had to be redone and w/o this tool I would need to resort to a pair of needle-nose pliers, and small flat-head, and a lot of cussing ha ha. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I plan to order a another set or two to have on stand-by just because the price is good and the quality is excellent. Not a cheap piece of junk at all. You will be quite happy to own this product.
