Remember to use jumper for master
Thought it didn't work at first - someone in the Q&A here helpfully reminded me you need to use a jumper to master the drive, so if you're having trouble, try that. After that, it worked like a charm!!! I was able to copy all the data off 3 old drives, checked for integrity, it worked flawlessly. Only gripe, and honestly the manufacturer is doing their best here so I can't dock any points for it - it's too bulky to fit in many hard drive caddies, so you're going to be holding your drives in the old fashioned way (screws). Not that manufacturer's fault - it's as slim as it could be. Also - this is for connecting an old (female IDE) drive to a new (female SATA, male SATA cable) mobo. Don't go complaining if you try and go the other way and it doesn't work - there are a TON of products out there for that, this just isn't one of them. I'll try to edit with pictures later.

WARNING: Computer Caught Fire!!! DO NOT BUY!
It worked for almost a month. Then one day it caught fire. Computer is destroyed. Smoke damage on the ceiling. So far company REFUSES to take any blame. They say I hooked things up wrong. I worked in IT for years. I hooked it up properly. The product (The one I received) was faulty. There is nothing protecting the circuit board. It almost burned the house down. Yet he refuses to do anything about it. DO NOT BUY from him. DON'T BE SORRY. I am now out the cost of the computer and smoke damage in the living room. Thank goodness some one was home when it happened.

Windows 10 did not recognize adaptor connected IDE CD drive correctly
May work great depending on various factors unknown to me. My experience - Windows 10 recognized this adaptor connected IDE CD drive as a standard disk (hard drive) and loaded hard drive drivers. I spent several (!) attempts to replace driver with a CD driver (CdRom.sys) for this adaptor/IDE CD drive without success. Result - unfortunately, this adaptor didn't work for me. Am now successfully using a StarTech.com 1 Port PCI Express IDE Controller Adapter Card - Storage Controller - ATA - 133 MBps - PCIe x1 (PEX2IDE) in my application, which does cost more. The above PCIe card connected CD drive was recognized correctly by Windows 10 without user intervention.

Works, but mixed results on the same optical drive?
I used this to convert an optical drive to SATA for a motherboard that doesn't have an IDE connector. But the results were strangely inconsistent. This is what happens on a UEFI board. At first it's recognized as a UEFI bootable drive. So far a week I could actually use it to boot a live CD of Linux or even a diagnostic disc. Not anymore. For some reason after a week, it no longer recognized it as a UEFI bootable disk in BIOS. So now it will not boot a DVD or CD at all. Instead I have to use an external DVD ROM to boot any DVD or CD. This is weird. It's set as master on the jumper. To get this to even be recognized properly, this had to be powered through both the floppy connector and through the SATA connector. I'm going to replace this with an actual SATA optical drive. I'm sure there's some use for it but not with this motherboard.

WORKS GREAT! Brought back my old IDE LightScribe DVD burner!
At first I was a little worried after reading some reviews about others having no luck with this adapter, especially with CD/DVD-ROMs. I set my drive to master, plugged this adapter to the IDE input on the drive along with the 4-pin Molex power cable (included with adapter), plugged in the SATA power & data cables to the adapter and booted PC. Drive came up reads and writes as it should! Might have to get another for my old IDE HDD’s. One thing to note on the item I received was one of the individual power cables on the adapter side (smaller connector) was not inserted all the way into the connector. A little shove onto the connector and I head the click and it seated just fine and was no longer loose.

Well designed and works as intended
I've used a few of these, this is the smallest. The design allows it to take as little space as possible which is great on a bare drive, however may not work with some removable drive trays. Worked with both IDE disks & CD/DVD drives, just be sure to install the drive jumper as "master". You do need an available SATA power cable as it's designed receive power on the SATA and pass power thru to the drive via the included cable. Once installed it is transparent to the OS.
