Pretty in Pink - DVD - Pretty but poor, Andie's (Molly Ringwald) a good student who develops a crush on Blane (Andrew McCarthy), the sensitive, well-born preppie. But Blane runs with a fast crowd of haughty rich kids, the kind of clique Andie and her new wavy best friend Duckie (Jon Cryer) can't stand. Going against her fretting father (Harry Dean Stanton), peer pressure and social expectations, she decides to date him. But their big plans for the senior prom ultimately fall apart when Blane heeds his friend Steff's (James Spader) warning to "quit slumming." Will Blane find the courage to claim what he really wants and give up the so-called friends he doesn't need? This classic 1980s teen film from the master of the genre, writer-producer John Hughes features plenty of great '80s pop tunes from the Psychedelic Furs, The Smiths, Echo and The Bunnymen, New Order, and more. The continued success of Hughes' films and actors ushered in the era of the "brat pack" and teen films as pop culture. Review: This review pertains to the Paramount Presents blu-ray edition - "Pretty in Pink" (1986) was directed by Howard Deutch from a screenplay by John Hughes who also was an executive producer. It was a modest theatrical hit grossing 40.4 million against a budget of 9 million. The cast is tremendous featuring Molly Ringwald, James Spader, Jon Cryer, Annie Potts, Andrew McCarthy and Harry Dean Stantob. While not quite as critically acclaimed as "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club", it is still a terrific little film detailing high school life in the mid 80's from the inimitable screenwriting perspective of the late & great John Hughes. This is a must watch for fans of the lovely Molly Ringwald in particular. "Pretty in Pink" got a DVD release all the way back in 2006. It seemed like the film would never make the jump to blu-ray but Paramount finally did just that in 2020 as part of their new Paramount Presents line of special edition blu-rays. The film got a new 4K remaster and is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio (slightly opened up from its 1.85:1 theatrical exhibition) utilizing the AVC codec at a beefy bit rate staying usually in the mid 30's. Simply put, "Pretty in Pink" looks amazing! Detail, color saturation, and contrast/black levels are all near perfect. Unless the film ever got a 4K UHD physical release, this is the best the film will ever look. This new transfer was supervised and approved by the director. The feature itself gets a robust 5.1 DTS-HD mix. There is also the option of an isolated score track which is cool since the film is highly celebrated for its soundtrack. There are also options for German, French, and Japanese audio tracks in regular 2 channel stereo. English subtitles are included for the hearing impaired. The disc comes in a cool slipcover that opens up on the front to feature the original theatrical poster art. Extras while sadly on the light side are as follows: - Filmmaker Focus: Director Howart Deutch on Pretty in Pink (7 min. 38 sec.) - The Lost Dance: The Original Ending (12 min. 15 sec.) - Original theatrical trailer (1 min. 27 sec.) While I am disappointed that there is no director and/or cast commentary track or new cast interviews, this long overdue blu-ray release of "Pretty in Pink" is still a must buy for fans. The film looks and sounds amazing and when it comes down to it, the presentation of the film is of utmost importance. In that regard, Paramount knocked it out of the park with this one. Review: One worth owning! - Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer, Andrew McCarthy, and James Spader were still in their young twenties when they made this 80s film. It may seem embarrassing to look back on it now, but the film has not faded away and is still worth a high definition viewing. This is a must-have 4K UHD. Don't miss it!

Great case and clean discs
A Classic that should be on 4k! But just as important is the case was sturdy and no plastic warp sticking to it. Inside the case was clean from the production line. Discs were clean and perfect. Well done Paramount! Others should take notes and use the same manufacturer. In the past I had to return movies because the case were broken, loose disc inside that got scratched and dirty cases inside. Well done!

4 Stars (See Why)
Since the opinion of how good a movie is differs from person to person, I decided to come up with a more "generic" rating system for movies purchased on Amazon. That is, instead of rating how "good" a movie is, my rating is going to be based on how the product is advertised. All movies that I rate are going to start with "3" stars and will be adjusted as follows: +1 star if the product is EXACTLY how it is advertised (meaning, the picture[s] are accurate at the time of my purchase) +1 star if the product gives you an extra that is not advertised (i.e., if a Blu-Ray disc is included on a 4KUHD listing but not shown in the picture[s]) -1 star if the product doesn't "quite" match the description (i.e., if an unrated 4KUHD movie only has the unrated version in an included Blu-Ray disc but gives no indication as such on the product picture[s]) -2 stars if the product short changes the purchase (ie, the product advertises something but you don't get it) With that in mind, I am giving this movie 4 stars because: + What was advertised is exactly what you get. The item comes with a 4KUHD disc, a Blu-Ray disc, and a digital code. Digital code was successfully redeemed

Another great 1980's movie
Pretty In Pink was one of the only John Hughes movies that somehow managed to slip by me until about two weeks ago. It's a great one, but not his very best, my favorite of his was definitely The Breakfast Club! This is worth seeing though, I loved seeing Annie Potts so young!! 😊💕
