SOLID
I bought an assortment of Baldwin door hardware from Amazon and another builder supply site to change interior and exterior hardware on a home new to us and I could not be more pleased with the quality and overall value of these products. Yes they cost more but you get what you pay for. I've used the other name brands in my life and they were fine but this is a different class of hardware. This entry set is beautifully finished and SOLID as are the other interior privacy and passage sets I purchased. The locksets are all easily keyed the same by the homeowner. Of course you have to get multiple keys made of the one you choose to use but that's as simple as as a trip to the big box.hardware store I had already heard about Baldwin and this validated my thoughts. You will not regret investing in Baldwin door hardware.

Baldwin Locks and this deadbolt is top quality
Baldwin quality can be "felt" in everyday use -such a simple thing but you can feel the smoothness in every key turn. Previous unit has lasted over 15 years with no problems until the "guts" finally disintegrated in our harsh, tropical, salty environment. Comes with "lifetime warranty" but I think 15 years was value enough and worth paying for a replacement. Their smart key "technology" allowed us to "re-key" this new unit to our existing set of baldwin keys which is super convenient.

I love these handlesets Baldwin Brass has been my fav for forever.
Years ago when we remodeled our last house, we had ordered hardware through a door co that never came through. Frantically I ran to HD to find something that would work and I discovered this company. I bought every door handle for the house including the entryways and installed them myself that night. The contractor came back the next morning and complimented my choice.Theyโre harder to find now since most of my local HD no longer carry them in store, I assume because of Schlage, who I think owns them now.Well, I have since moved and have been replacing all the door hardware. You donโt understand how much it changes everything. Their designs are amazing with every finish. I appreciate how much more gerth that the levers have to compare to other brands. These deadbolts in particular are great because the inside is a knob and the outside is keyed. My former owner had a double keyed deadbolt that needed a key to get out! That seemed like a death wish. Smart key is a bonus so I donโt need 15 different keys to keep and the house is universal. We have a lot of entry doors. Itโs super easy and I can recharge if thereโs an issue without replacing the lock set itself! I think thereโs a lot of value in that. The designs for their hardware is stunning, they have several. I am using their more square design for another place, but this one is going into a craftsman it it looks gorgeous.

Wonderful set
I purchased this dead bolt along with an entry handle for my new house. My biggest concern when purchasing this lock set was making sure I received a quality product. This same set is sold at Home Depot. It appeared to be exactly the same as the Home Depot set. As I continue to update my house I am going to continue to purchase these locks.Install: I have installed several brands and types of lock sets before. I am no professional by any means. I found this handle to be very straight forward and easy to install. I wasn't able to figure out how to flip the key hole though. I wish I could install handles and dead bolts with the key facing the same direction as to not have to flip the key after unlocking the deadbolt. It is not a big deal though. To change the key was very easy. I think it took me all of 2 minutes to figure out how to rekey the locks. Since I purchased 3 different locks I had 3 choices of keys to use. I can now rekey at any time without having to go buy any more keys.Quality: I have had this set for 3 months now. I have not had any issues with the quality. The lock works the same in 90 degree weather as it does in below zero. The finish is still perfect after 3 months of abuse. The nice thing with these dead bolts is that there are 4 screws that go into the door frame, including 2 which are really long and should reach the the studs. I can't imagine that it would be easy to kick down the door with these dead bolts.Overall: I would recommend this brand and this set in particular if it is your style.

Almost a perfect bolt lock except for one little gotcha
After buying a really cheap AmazonBasics brand bolt lock (which took me over an hour to install due to screws not even fitting in, and front plate breaking apart due to cheap metals), I decided to buy something nicer. Boy, this is superior over the AmazonBasics External Boltlock I got. Worth every penny.I didn't want to buy a Kwikset due to the cheap flimsy metal and really bad reputations it has, but I really wanted a SmartKey system (sorry Schlage), so I decided to give this a try. Note that Kwikset and Baldwin are the same companies but one has a higher quality (Balwin locks are heavier, denser, and waaaay harder to drill). It's like of like Toyota/Lexus, and Honda/Acura. At any rate, I installed this without any problem except for one thing. The SmartKey retooling key that came in the box DOES NOT WORK. In the picture I uploaded, the top picture is the retooling key that I bought from Amazon (it looks like the tip has been chopped off), and the one on the bottom is a working one that I have from another kit from another time. I don't know why this is the case, but it looks like the quality control of Baldwin has been going downhill and starting to become more and more like Kwikset these days.At any rate, when it comes to locks, don't trust cheap brands. They can be drilled easily (trust me on this, I've tried the AmazonBasics boltlock and it is just a toy lock -- totally not worth it). Spend a little more, and get way more back in terms of safety and your sanity.

Nice product, uses a Kwikset keyway
This deadbolt is nicely made and matches other Baldwin Venetian Bronze hardware nicely except for one thing. The SmartKey system, uses a KW1 (Kwikset) keyway. That means that if you have other existing residential Baldwin locks, which generally use a SC1 (Schlage) keyway, you'll end up with two keys to operate all of your locks. Apart from that, this is nice hardware, solidly made and the SmartKey system is quite convenient and as secure as a conventional five pin lockset. If you want to get a keyway match for other Baldwin locks, the Schlage SecureKey system offers consumer settable rekeying using the SC1 keyway. Baldwin doesn't use that system probably because they're owned Black and Decker which also owns Kwikset. In general, you can mix SmartKey (Baldwin or Kwikset), Kwikset and Weiser locks, OR Baldwin SC1 (non SmartKey), Schlage and Dexter locks, but if you cross over, you're carrying an extra key. Bottom line is, check your keyway before you add locks to verify that the new locks can use the same key blanks as the existing. There are many more types of keyways than I've listed above, even within the various brands noted.

Love Baldwin products!!
The easiest deadbolt you'll ever install!!! Soooo much better than, uh um, Kwikset, if I'm permitted to write. Baldwins are a little more expensive, but SO worth it!!!! They are such better quality than the competitors. I definitely recommend spending a little more for them. They are super easy, look nice and are much more durable!!!I have several rental properties and have had to replace several locks by other manufacturers. I plan to never replace the Baldwins and I just love the re-key feature. Its VERY simple!!! :) LOVE THEM!! Wish I would have discovered them earlier!!!
