Rabbi Szmerla, an outstanding Talmid Chacham and a Dayan in Lakewood, delved deeply in the subject and provides the reader with a clear explanation of specific methods of healing, the Halachic issues involved with the pros and the cons and his opinion about the Halachic status of each method. The book has many Haskamot (approbations) and is very well sourced in English and in Hebrew. The book is not written for the purpose of convincing readers about the validity of alternative healing. It is written for those who are either practitioners and/or beneficiaries of alternative healing methods for the purpose of discerning between kosher and non-kosher practices.

Having been involved in the Rabbinical research into Alternative Medicine, I found this book to be well balanced and researched. It carries an impressive range if noted Rabbi's approbations. Unlike much written on the subject, this book contains a good depth of actual research into Alternative Medicine as well as Torah. It also seems free if axes to grind and is a search for truth.
