Beautifully made base plate for the Sony A 7RV and A 7IV.
Superb base plate with built in ARCA tripod mount for our Sony A 7RV and A 7IV cameras. I purchased two of these. Very well made with trim to match the camera that protects the bottom of the camera and provides an ARCA tripod mount as well standard threaded sockets for other accessories. Fit and finish is superb and it is very easy to fit. A handy key which is magnetically attached to the underside of the plate is used to secure the camera and mount together. Once mounted it looks like an integral part of the camera. It locates without any adjustment and fits perfectly. One thing to note is that for access to the A 7IV battery door, there is a part of the base plate that swings aside. It will need to be closed when the battery door is closed. The A7RV does not need this for full access. There are no instructions so we had to work this out for ourselves. It is a minor inconvenience that you should note but it is well executed and does not look as if it will wear out over time. Pros: 1. Extremely well made. 2. Fits exactly. 3. Looks as if it was always part of the camera with matching camera leatherette finish around the edges. 4. Provides access to the battery (note the base plate piece that swings aside for the A 7IV). 5. Provides ARCA dovetail for tripods and machined sockets for other peripherals or tripod mounts. 6. Protects the bottom of the camera. 7. Very light weight. Cons: 1. Part of the plate swings aside to gain access to the Sony A7IV battery door that may not be obvious. Summary: Thoroughly recommended as a way to protect and add functionality to your Sony A 7RV and A 7IV.

Perfect!!!
Perfect functionality for my Sony a7RV camera! It provides the grip and comfort I was hoping for. The camera feels more substantial in my hand. Great value for the money as it is very well made and well designed to fit perfectly on my camera! I highly recommend it!!!

Must have for A7RV
This is mandatory for bigger hands. If your pinky hangs off the camera, this baseplate gives it a comfortable home. I’ve seen reviews of people saying it’s too small or issues opening the battery door and I think they got sent the A7iii grip instead. The one for the V has been upgraded for the longer grip and has a part of the baseplate that folds out so you can open your battery door all the way without having to remove the baseplate. It’s actually a very simple, yet clever design. And for $30, this thing is hard to beat.

Perfect fit in 2025. Fits both models.
This works PERFECTLY on A7IV and the A7RV. I have both bodies. Disregard other reviews that say it doesn’t work. It fits perfectly and the battery door is not covered and does open once you move the little winged tab out the way. They must have redesigned it or he got the wrong one. But fit is perfect and makes a place for pinky to rest.

SmallRig Baseplate for Sony Alpha 7R V/ A7 IV, with QR Plate (for Arca)
The product fit the A7RV well and provided extra length for the pinkie finger to grip. One star is deducted because the tool for the screw that is magnetically attached to the base fell off during the first week of use. The magnet should be stronger or a different method used. When it came time to remove the base I had to find a large flat blade screwdriver.

Incredibly comdortable
I usually put an L bracket on my Sony cameras, to get space for my pinky to hold onto. I've used many of them and they usually add a lot of weight and bulk to the camera even if there's more grip. I wanted to experiment with using an a7rV without the bulky bracket, but still ended up eventually deciding I wanted something more withiut committing to the whole thing. Ads for this popped up and I was pretty suspicious especially of the little side door to use the original battery door in place. But I was amazed that it's easily the most comfortable grip upgrade I've ever used, and the entire things very light and high quality. the swinging door is very stiff and takes a deliberate effort to swing open at all. it's very satisfying. granted this omits the sliding portion and extra metal of the side portion of an L bracket, but it's not really common enough that I am shooting portrait on tripod, and if the lens is big enough that it can't be rotated, it should have its own tripod mount. The a7rVs high IS means I need a tripod less frequently, and the resolution is available to simply shoot horizontal and crop vertical later. *shrug* I thought I would be compromising something, but instead I'm over the moon thrilled with this thing.

Works with A7III
It is not designed to work with the A7III but I attached it and it seems to fit close enough to still work. It will not be as sturdy with the pin locking in but It does work with almost no issues or interference. Very sturdy and well made. It also has a section that flips out to allow the battery cover to properly open up.

Just buy it. You won’t regret it!
The baseplate adds a much needed grip length and comfort to my Sony A7m4! The material is sturdy and well worth the money. Pair this with the SmallRig hand strap and this setup is perfect!! What I appreciate is the many threads and adapting points to the base plate. It’s easy to install and it holds tight. I’ve had it for a year and it’s never loosened on me. As a bonus, it comes with a flat head tool that slots into the baseplate so you never lose it!

Top quality product, fits well and tight on Sony A7IV

I have this on my Sony A7 IV. I have quite big hands so have found the A7 a bit hard to hold and use. This bracket does add a bit of weight but makes using the camera a much better experience. It allows me to feel that I am really holding the camera and stops my hands from trying to cramp up around the camera body. If you find that your hands are a bit cramped when using your camera, then this is for you. Also makes it easier when putting on a tripod as it has that functionality built in. Highly recommended.

SmallRig Baseplate for Sony Alpha 7 IV Camera, with QR Plate (for Arca Type) Quick Switching Between Tripod and Stabilizer (for DJI RS 2/RSC 2), w Cold Shoe Mount, Base Cold Shoe Mount Bracket - 3666B This is a base attachment the extends the form factor of the camera for a larger grip. Make no mistake it will increase the overall weight of the camera significantly because its a hefty metal part. The benefit for me outweighs the additional weight. The unit is made like a tank. Rock solid all-metal build. Sharp black powder coat. Excellent design to follow the curve of the camera to make it look "a part of the" body. Silicone base side softly mates with the body so as to not scratch the base surface. Battery door is openable with the plate still installed --- before you panic and return the unit due to battery door not opening: just open the gate (see pic) for adding extra clearance for the battery door to pop out. The reason for this is becasue a7 IV has almost NO clearance / edge with the new design so it is basically impossible to design this rig without this gate.. it is well designed. There is a magnetic flat screw under the plate that you can use to unscrew the smallrig anytime. This is super convenient. The magnet is strong enough for the screw to stay stuck to body. Very well designed product -- as it is with basically all smallrig products i've purchased. 1. i can freely place the cam on any surface (like concrete) without worrying about cam being scratched up. 2. arc plate means easy on/off on tripods/monopods without needing to attach anything else. 3. longer body gives me a lot more confidence holding the camera with that extra ~1cm taller body 4. using the plate's 1/4" screw rather than in-body 1/4" screw reduces any wear/tear of it 5. cold shoe under body for anything you want to rig up I'm not actually sure why there are some reviews here saying there are "gaps" and the smallrig "wiggles". I can only gues that maybe those people stripped their in-body 1/4" screw and things arent sitting properly? I can guarantee you this smallrig fits perfectly and ZERO gap/budging. ZERO wiggling. It is rock solid for me on my sony a7-4 body. Hope this helps.

I’ve looked at Sony’s little grip extender, but never liked it. I know I don’t want to add a bulky battery grip. I saw a shot of this on a forum, and ordered it on a whim - it arrived quickly, beautifully packed (nice recyclable cardboard, too!), and it’s a perfect fit. It even has a locator pin that fits into the base of the camera so it cannot twist. Has a way to allow the battery for to open, with needing to remove it - I think it is a It gives my little finger a place to grip, but weighs almost nothing. This is the solution I did not know I wanted! Recommended if your little finger is looking for a home.

Love it! I got my pinky holding the plate compared to when I don't have anything at the bottom, compatible with my ULANZI tripod.
