Garmin USB Power Cable

For years I've had my Garmins plugged into a "cigarette" style outlet on my motorcycle. Due to the location of the outlet I had about 4' of wire bundled on my handlebars. Vibrations would cause it to occasionally come loose, and once during a rainstorm the gps quit working because of water collecting inside the outlet. When I saw this was working for some folks on their car-style gps units I figured I'd give it a try. It arrived quickly and had about 5' of wire, which was perfect for my installation. I tested it before mounting and it works great. After wiring it to a switched accessory wire it now comes on when I start the bike up, and goes off when I turn the bike off. Garmin 50LM. The wires are decent gauge with the ends coming already tinned. The majority of the wiring is covered in a wrapping that looks great, protects the wire and looks nice. It also comes fused. The output reads "5 volt/500ma".

You get what you pay for. I wanted to hardwire my Garmin Nuvi and thought I would try and save a few bucks with a cheaper imitation product. That product was a complete failure and would cause my Nuvi to cycle on and off. I used my multimeter to measure the voltage and found out it was outputting less than 1V (nowhere near the required 5 volts). I sent that back and purchased the this Garmin power cable. Right away the quality difference was obvious. This uses much higher gage wires with an in-line fuse. The cheaper product didn't have a fuse and was very thin gage wire. Hooked up the Garmin Nuvi to this adapter and as expected it is working flawlessly. Highly recommended.

Works as it should. I would have liked to know the length of the wire prior to purchasing. I would prefer it to be longer. I was able to splice more wire onto this to complete my install.

This cord was JUST what I needed. I use my GPS at work in rough, off-road conditions every day. The plastic square GPS end of the plug mates perfectly with the Garmin 62 Series GPS and prevents damage to the sensitive electical connections from bouncing and the weight of the cord- pretty nice. Easy to wire and has an inline fuse. I have mine always "hot", so if my truck is off, the GPS stays on.

Finally! This pricey little cord finally did the trick. I’ve had near constant power issues over the years with my older Garmins using USB power. Apparently Garmin has proprietary wiring that is required to keep your GPS running. So I bit the bullet and paid $40 for basically a $9 cable with Garmin’s same on it… and suddenly I am running problem free! With the extra $$ for sure.

Excellent design and quality

While this fits the Garmin Drive 6 physically , it only puts out 500ma and that's not enough to run and charge the unit. Every time the voice came on , the unit would shut down. I'd return it but I had to shorten the wires for the installation and when I found it was under powered , it was too late. So far I have been unable to locate a hard wire kit that puts out 2 amps , like the cigarette lighter adapter does. I didn't see an amp rating in the description and just assumed it would work , my mistake.

Hola, el cable ha llegado con mucha rapidez. Dos días y en casa. Sobre el cable decir que es el segundo que compro ya que el primero que instale no me ha durado ni un año. Lo tengo montado en una moto de enduro y lo utilizo para navegación en montaña. Esta claro que se lleva golpes, barro, agua y algúna pedrada que otra. El tema es que ha dejado de cargar el gps creo que por que se a fastidiado el mini usb. Mientras ha funcionado ha ido de perlas. Ha durado una temporada de offroad. Veremos este que dura.

Es el segundo que compro, el primero solo a durado un año, espero este dure más, mientras a funcionado, sin problema

Once again Amazon has saved me money. Cheaper by $20 bucks over GPS City. And free ship it. The wire is great!
