Cardboard? No. Hard Plastic? Yes.
To start off, this is an excellent case for people who are about to travel. This is hard, durable, and plus you can hold 3 games, (2 holders are in the case, one can fir in the system) and it can hold your memory stick too! I traveled oversees and I had to wait 5 hours at the airport, thankfully, I had this case to put my PSP 3000 in (by the way, the PSP 3000 fits very snuggle in this case, it doesn't move)! There are a lot of holes and hinges, but they all have a purpose, and no wrong in doing so. For example, there are 6 holes in the whole case. One is for the charger, two of them for the L1 and R1 buttons, one hole so you can reach the power, and one for your headphones. And finally one hole so you can attach a strap. Now when you open the case, the PSP has a screen protector that doesn't cause light visibility or reflection problems. Put the system in, and snap the protective screen over it. The case inside has like a rubber inside, which keeps it safe. As the case is open, there are yet 2 more holes. One to reach the WLAN switch, and the last for a USB. On the back of the case you see the back of your system. Only small problem is, you must take out the system to change a game. But seriously, is this really bad? To me it isn't. Let's just say this thing has no problems, it's all good! This case can be carried by hand, but, I'm not sure if it'll fit if you have a small pocket. Overall! I HIGHLY recommend buying this case! It is a good price, NOT a rip-off, and genuinely, it's own kind. 5/5 Good job Sony! This case is excellent!

I LOVE THIS CASE!
This case must have been designed by someone who took a long look at the Logitech Playgear case, and then wanted to add improvements. I have the Logitech case for my PSP "phat" 1000. I really loved the fact that it was a hard case, as it saved my PSP on several occasions. I recently bought a PSP "slim" 2000 and gave the 1000 to my wife to watch movies on. With the slim I got a softcase. I hated it. I looked long and hard for the Logitech Playgear for my new 2000 but it just can't be found. I decided to "settle" on this case and I am so very glad I did. The case has a number of improvements over the Logitech. You can have 2 UMD's in the case and 4 memory sticks. The case has an opening for the headphones and that opening is wide enough for the headphone connectors that point to the right, instead of pointing straight out. If you have headphones that have that type of connector, the case even has a little "lip" where the cord can sit, when the case is closed, this way you don't yank it out by accident. (Look at the connect on this product, this is what I'm talking about[...] Next the case has a flip over protector that locks the PSP into the carrier. This way when you flip the lid over the back, the PSP sits upright and at an angle, which is good for viewing movies at my desk. Yes, the Logitech lid could be flipped back as well, but if you stood up really quick, your PSP could fall out. Not with this case. The flip lid also has an opening so you can plug in your USB data transfer cable without taking the PSP out of the case. The case is slighting thicker than the Logitech, but only by 1/3 of an inch. Finally the case has little rubber feet, which, when the case is propped open keeps it from slipping. I think the case was well thought out, and has lots of little features that make it a nice case.

One sturdy little case.
I picked this up for my 12 year old, who just got a PSP for his birthday. I can tell already this thing is going to be a god-send. He really likes the fact that it has spots in the lid for UMDs and memory sticks. I really like the foam nesting inside and the fact that it's built to stand up to some abuse. For being plastic, it seems to be quite the sturdy case, and so far it's beating the pants off the cloth case he was gifted with the PSP in terms of reliable protection. For the awesome price on this, if it holds up to even a few months of the abuse he can dish out, I'm going to be one happy camper.

May Cause Damage To PSP and UMDs
I bought two of these back when I got my two PSP-3000s. It at first seemed like a good buy, but after time I found myself having to compromise the product just to prevent damage to my system and UMDs. Initially, the thought of being able to play the PSP while in the case was fantastic. However I soon enough discovered many issues. The first, if you seat the screen cover properly, it holds down the brightness button. This triggers the screen to turn off. The only way to prevent this is to have the screen cover wedged just to the side of the button (off-center). The second issue was that the screen protector is not flesh with the hump found on the lower end of the PSP's front end. This means that the screen protector both scratches the lower end of the PSP and does not look flesh. The third issue was that the case closes so snug, that the screen protector causes damage to UMDs placed in the lid's compartments. After much scratching, I chose to throw away the cover. Now with no UMDs in the case, and the cover removed, I had a crippled case. Later after much more use, I started discovering that the insert that holds the UMDs on the lid was causing scuffs on the PSP as well. So I've since placed a lint free cloth to cover the PSP when I close the case. Since owning, this case has protected my PSP from a drop or two, however it's a very crippled product at this point. With so many scratches and scuffs caused by it, I can't recommend it at all to anyone. Since playing my PSP more lately, I've decided to get a new case with better protection.
