this is a really nice product. Real broad bean past is hard to ...
Just used this for the first time today. The only con about the product, as others have noted, is that there is no ingredient list or standard nutritional information. The seller should remedy this issue. Otherwise, this is a really nice product. Real broad bean past is hard to find, and though I can't guarantee that it is 100% broad bean, it seems a lot like a 100% broad bean past that my local Asian store no longer carries. The price seems reasonable to me as well. The packaging is careful, clean and effective. There are actually three layers: the outer packaging, another bag inside that, and two individual pouches of paste in that. Having two separate pouches is a nice touch, and it's not clear from the product photos here that this is the case. The paste itself seems to be of a very high quality, with chunks of broad bean in it and crushed red pepper with some seeds. The taste is salty, pungent, and hot. Despite the photos on here, the look is not oily. On your first go, use less than you think you need. It seems quite concentrated. I'm quite happy with this product and recommend it. Happy Sichuan cooking!

Surprisingly good
I use this to make my family's favorite sichuan pork soup. It gives the soup a wonderful warm, umami and tangy/sour flavor without being too hot. I was worried the first time that it would be super spicy but it's not. I don't need to add salt to any dish it is in, but it's not overly salty either. Depending on what you are making, you don't need much to get a wonderful flavor. I recommend for those who are nervous to add 1/2 what the recipie calls for, taste, add more. I use 2 TBSP in my soup and it's great. Also, don't add soy sauce or salt to your recipe until you taste it with this paste added first. I store mine in my pantry with no problems. I go through both packets in less than a year so I don't know what the long term shelf life is. I wish they had storage and nutritional information on the package.

Authentic Flavor, but a little bit pricy.
I decided to order this chili paste through Amazon to avoid going to asian grocery store during this "Shelter-At-Home" period. The packaging of this chili paste is okay, there are two seperate small bags inside the outside big bag. I made Mapo Tofu last night with this paste and it turned out well. The paste is not overly salty and has a good and authentic Chinese bean paste flavor, definitely different from American style Mapo Tofu sauce. I added a little bit more salt and some sugar in the cooking to make to the flavor that I myself like the best. The quality of this bean paste is fine. However, as an Asian that shops frequently at asian grocery stores, I personally think the price of this bean paste is a little higher than the similar ones that I saw in asian grocery stores. For the convenience of not leaving the house to shop, I think it is still worth it.

Great taste, not sweet
I bought similar bean paste from a small business before it was sold on Amazon. This is quite a bit less expensive and tastes exactly the same. As best I know this is the real deal Pixian style, and doesn't contain the sugar found in the Taiwanese style doubanjiang also sold on Amazon. I cook a lot of stir fries and quite a few that are Sichuan style. Every SEOES product I've purchased has been excellent.

So good
Bomb bomb bomb!! I love mapo tofu and needed a good paste so I can leave the people at the szechuan restaurant alone for once, this is so good. Was using that kum lee stuff you get in asian grocery stores and compared to that is like apples and oranges. This stuff is so tasty and there’s a decent amount of it. I transferred the packets into a separate container, it comes in a zip loc type bag with three packets of the paste inside it.

16oz pack (two 8oz individually-sealed packs) weighed in at 14oz :|
Flavorful, one of the better Sichuan doubanjiangs I've tried out there where the ingredients aren't blended into an unidentifiable paste. I've resorted to buying online since certain Sichuan goods like genuine doubanjiang, green Sichuan peppercorns, or heaven-facing chili peppers can be difficult to even at Chinese grocery stores. However, I ordered the 16oz pack (two 8oz individually-sealed packs) and mine wasn't 1 lb. It was 14oz, 2oz shy of the advertised weight. There's also no ingredient list on the packaging.

My favorite doubanjiang
We cook something that needs doubanjiang at least once every 2 weeks so we go thru a lot of it. The soeos product is my favorite of the many types I've bought so far. It's already chopped up so you can spoon it into a pan straight out of the jar, unlike other types. Also it is bright firetruck red and makes your dish more beautiful. I didn't think that color mattered as a home cook... until my dishes that are normally brown, transformed into instagram worthy brilliant red sauces. It is nice stuff. One note, it came in 2x 8 oz bags (well sealed) instead of a 16 oz plastic jar like my prev Soeos purchase .. but I didn't mind getting it like this & just decanting into a jar myself.

Delicious
This doubanjiang is delicious and authentic. I do recommend a very fine chop, as the Chile skins are naturally a bit tough. Flavor is on point and it’s not too salty, which has been a problem with some brands.

High in salt, but delicious when added in small amounts to stir fry and Asian dishes!
My first impression of this broad bean paste with chilli oil, was that it looked awful and tasted gross. I later discovered that it is really meant to be mixed into stir-fry and added to dishes while cooking. On its own, the taste is not great, but once added to a stir fry or Ramen, it is delicious! I find myself reaching for it while making Asian food dishes for my family. It adds a subtle amount of heat and satisfying taste! It is high in sodium, so I recommend holding off on adding additional salt to your dish. A little goes a long way, you don’t need a whole lot to bring out the flavours in this paste. I recommend adding a quarter of a teaspoon to half a teaspoon at a time and taste your dish. Don’t judge it by its appearance, it does not look very appealing, but in terms of flavour, it really is delicious! The jar was sealed tightly with a lid, as well as a pull tab lid that kept the content safe in transport. I found the jar a little messy once it was opened, as there is a considerable amount of oil.

Must try!!!
🌶️ Soeos Sichuan Broad Bean Paste with Chili Oil – A Flavorful Essential ⭐ Overall Impression This condiment has quickly become one of my kitchen staples. The balance of flavor is what sets it apart: it’s bold and savory without being overwhelming. Unlike many similar products, it avoids being overly salty, and the spice level is just right—noticeable but not overpowering. It enhances dishes without masking their natural taste. 🍲 Flavor Profile Not too spicy: Adds warmth and depth without burning your palate. Rich umami: The fermented broad beans deliver a deep, savory backbone. Balanced saltiness: Unlike other doubanjiang pastes, it doesn’t dominate with salt. Aromatic chili oil: Provides a subtle fragrance and a silky texture that coats ingredients beautifully. 🥢 Versatility in Cooking I’ve used this paste in several dishes, and it consistently elevates them: Tofu stir-fries: Adds complexity and makes even simple tofu dishes taste restaurant-quality. Greens and vegetables: Brings out the freshness of greens while adding a savory kick. Marinades: Works wonderfully as a base for meats or plant-based proteins. Dipping sauces: Mixed with soy sauce or vinegar, it creates a flavorful dip for dumplings or noodles. 📦 Packaging & Quality Comes in a 13 oz (366g jar), which is generous and lasts a while even with frequent use. The paste has a smooth yet chunky texture, making it easy to spoon out and incorporate into dishes. Stays fresh and aromatic after opening, with no loss of flavor over time. ✅ Why It Stands Out Authentic taste: Captures the essence of Sichuan cooking. Balanced seasoning: Perfect for those who want flavor without excessive salt or heat. Reliable quality: Consistent results across different dishes. 🌟 Final Verdict If you’re looking for a condiment that can transform everyday cooking into bold, flavorful meals, the Soeos Sichuan Broad Bean Paste with Chili Oil is a must-try. It’s versatile, authentic, and perfectly balanced—ideal for stir-fries, marinades, and dipping sauces.

Could use a stronger chilli kick
The can was only about 75% full. It was surprising seeing that much unfilled space within the can. The bean to oil mixture is not quite even as well. There is noticeably much less oil than bean paste. This has quite a high sodium level. As such, you need only a little to get a strong bean paste salty flavour. Compare that to the chilli oil, you don't really get the desired spicy kick. Even as someone who normally doesn't eat hot food, I didn't feel the heat. In general, this was a decent condiment. It was tasty, and my family enjoyed adding this to their meal. The bean paste goes well with noodles or rice. It is easy to mix in and has a good taste. I do wish the two contrasting flavours were a little more balanced. As is, it is difficult to find that right amount to use to get the spiciness without it being too salty. Four stars.

Easy condiment for Asian cooking
This is a great condiment for any type of Asian cooking from vegetables to fish to dumplings. While the paste looks very red, it is not as spicy as it looks (personal taste buds for someone with mild spice tolerance). There is a strong Szechuan pepper taste, which again, personally not a big fan of. Once the paste thins out during cooking, there are fairly large chunks of pepper skins that are visible. Good for cooking or dipping, it does add an extra kick and flavor to dishes.
