I don't know the exact answer, however if you can place your glass tea kettle directly on a stove top burner, my answer would be yes. They really do diffuse the heat so the flame (if you have gas) is spread out under your kettle.

Q: How to detach the handle?

There is a slot in the plate which the handle fits through. The handle acts like a spring. You squeeze together the handle and lift the handle out of the slot.
