How can the mouse be configured to switch USB channels without having to turn it upside down and pressing the button on the bottom of the mouse?

Not required. The USB receiver needs to be plugged into the computer only when using the 2.4G channel. You can just use the bluetooth channel without plugging the USB receiver into the computer.
