Avantree torpedo plus is fantastic!! No more delay!!
Ok. I’d like to share my experience with the avantree torpedo plus Bluetooth speaker. I purchased two of them. I’m glad I did. To be honest, I thought what I was trying to do would be very simple. Unfortunately it was not. I just didn’t have enough information. All I wanted to do was add a Bluetooth speaker in my kitchen and one in my bedroom. Sounds very simple. However it was not. Here’s my setup: I have a Samsung smart tv which plays sound through my home theatre receiver which is a Denon aw-3300. I purchased it about a year ago. The Denon is connected to a wired speaker system. Typical home theatre setup. But all wired. Two front speakers, two rear speakers, a center channel speaker, a subwoofer. Very old setup but it sounds good still. Fortunately, that particular receiver does support Bluetooth. But it only receives Bluetooth signals. It does not transmit Bluetooth. So to get Bluetooth sound in my kitchen I had to purchase an avantree oasis plus Low latency APTX Bluetooth transmitter and hook it to the Denon receiver. No big deal. That product is wonderful if anyone is considering it. Works great. However, I purchased two ultimate ears boom 2 Bluetooth speakers to place in the two other rooms. At the time I did not know what latency was. I didn’t know that your speakers had to also support low latency to avoid a delayed sound. Unfortunately I discovered that not many speakers supported this. I am not putting down the ultimate ears boom 2 speakers. I loved them. I wish I could have kept them. But I returned them. Here’s why: first of all the boom 2 speakers sounded great. But for my application they did not work. When I paired them with the avantree oasis plus transmitter, the sound coming out was delayed for almost a whole second. Unless I was doing something wrong there was no fix for this. That’s because ultimate ears boom 2 does not support low latency APTX. It was so annoying listening to a second delay throughout my apartment. Wow! Terrible. Ultimate ears customer support was very bad because I don’t think they really read my support ticket. Or they didn’t understand it. They responded by telling me to check my iPhone settings etc. My iPhone was never even in the picture at all. I never even mentioned my phone. I was not even using it. Lol. But they were trying to get me to check my phone. Go figure. All I was using was my tv and Denon receiver. Anyway I wish the ultimate ears boom 2 speakers did not have a one second delay emitting sound. But I couldn’t handle that. Very annoying. I wonder why more speakers don’t support APTX low latency? Ok. So I returned the speakers. Then I discovered the avantree torpedo plus Bluetooth speakers. When I saw the support for APTX low latency I purchased two of them. Well. They were amazing. Not a split second of delay in my kitchen and bedroom. Sounds uniform all throughout my place. They also sound very good. Sound quality is excellent but the boom 2 speakers sound better. Not going to lie. Ultimate ears boom 2 are wonderful. But hearing the one second delay didn’t cut it for me. But the sound quality on the torpedo plus speakers is very good. Plus it’s my kitchen. I didn’t need high end speakers for that. Lol. So if anyone is in my boat, buy these speakers. If you don’t need low latency, there are better speakers. But it’s 5 star all the way for torpedo plus!!! They also look nice. Also, avantree customer service is great. They actually respond to your emails.

Almost the perfect portable speaker for a gamer or casual listener.
Bose Slayer right here. I've owned several Bluetooth/portable speakers over the years and I've had everything from the downright ugly and dinky generic Polaroids, to Bose SoundLink series (which are still great for the quality of music), but I happen to have the unique baby sitting in the middle -- the Avantree Torpedo Plus! As someone sensitive to latency when playing video games, but do want some crystal clear audio, this speaker has done exactly as described for me in the past 7 months when I purchased it. If you have an receiver that supports the aptX-Low Latency (LL) codec, you will be able to experience video and audio synced together with minimal delay on Windows. I use this paired with a Creative BT-W2 dongle that supports said codec. Pros: + Very loud volumes. We have taken this in the backyard for small gatherings and it is plentiful for a party of 3-4 people and definitely fills up a room. Little to no distortion + 3 different modes to toggle from -- Normal (for natural sound), Super Bass (if you wanna shake your table up with hip hop or dance), and 3D (for more vibrant stereo sounds). I normally set mine for Super Bass as the bass this thing provides packs a punch thanks to the thicc driver inside. + Low latency if paired with a device or adapter that supports aptX-LL codec. I mean I've used Bluetooth speakers that have absolutely hideous delay even when plugged into an aux cable. Cons: - Battery life not as high as contenders like the Bose SoundLink Mini II. Advertised around 6 hours, but that's still longer than one big speaker I owned that had 4 hours, and gave annoying voice prompts while low. - Powered only by a toggle switch. This can needlessly suck up the battery life even while powered on idle. Not a deal breaker considering it can be switched back to off, though. - Beeping prompts can be loud at times when pairing or powering the device The portability, volume, sound quality, and unique features of this such as low latency, really make the Torpedo Plus shine, and for the $70 price point, it's a major major GO! (In the tone of the great Flossy Carter on YouTube). Well worth the money for what it delivers, and one of the best, if not THE BEST, portable speakers I have ever used for its size!

Excellent quality speaker for the money.
I've owned three or four different wireless speakers over the past few years. But this one is the absolute best I have ever had or seen. I've used it on my laptop and my Television, and the sound is phenomenal for the size of the speaker.. I'm truly amazed at the level of quality that's packed into this little speaker.. Avantree has built a very respectable little unit here.. And I already own a pair of their headphones, so I am using the "Avantree Leaf" to pair with this speaker.. The two of them work fantastic together.. I can watch movies, and game with perfect lip sync.. There is no delay at all when watching TV or movies.. And it has just the right amount of bass and treble when set to 3D Surround Mode or Super Bass mode.. Battery life is pretty good for being a single 18650 Lithium Ion battery.. Lasts me about 4-6 hours depending on how loud I make the speaker.. But it also works just fine when plugged into power off USB while it's charging.. Takes about 2-3 hours to charge, but you can still use it while charging, so no big deal there.. One thing I would love to see in the next version of this product, is the ability of the user to actually be able to change the battery when it finally wears out.. There is easily the ability to build a little trap door battery compartment in the bottom where the battery could be accessed and swapped out by the user.. The way it is now, if the battery fails, there is no "easy" way to disassemble the entire unit just to change the battery in it.. Thus most people will just throw away a $60 speaker for no reason except a dead battery.. Why do that, when you could easily replace the battery for around $8 depending where you buy it.. All in all, I give this speaker a 5 star review.. The quality is there.. Granted, it will not compete against a $200 speaker, but it's not designed to do so.. If you have "realistic" expectations out of it, you'll be very happy with it.. Just don't expect to get $200 sound out of a $60 speaker is all I'm saying.. As far as wireless range? Excellent! I took it almost 75 feet away from my laptop and it performed as if it was sitting right next to it.. However, I also credit the Avantree Leaf Transmitter for that as well.. It really sends that signal out far and wide.. The two were made for each other.. I love this speaker so much, I'm ordering two more of them for safe keeping. I love this speaker and it works great with my laptop, so I don't ever want to be without it in case they quit making this model.. It's the perfect size for my laptop case.. Thank you Avantree for building a really nice product here..

Finally found what I've been looking for!
Great product. High quality build, material, packaging. It's sleek and looks good on a counter. They really did a great job for the price point. It looks and feels more expensive than it is. The main reason I bought this is because I need something that is guaranteed to support the aptx low latency codec. I use it to watch TV in my RV. The TV is kind of far from the bed and we have to turn it up too high to hear it (which wakes the kids in the next room). So I got the Avantree Priva II BT transmitter (which uses aptxLL, and is also a great device - I highly recommend!). I first tried the Sony XB20 speaker, which had fantastic sound - excellent mids and tasteful bass. The only problem was the audio lag. It was really bad and drove me nuts. Then I tried a cheap no-name speaker ("Musky") - big mistake. It claimed aptx capability, but its lag was even worse than the Sony, and it sounded awful. Then I found this speaker. It paired up with my transmitter with no issues. The controls are intuitive and very easy to find by touch. I can't really speak for the battery life, especially since I don't really intend to use the battery; I have it permanently mounted over my bed. The only 'issue' is that the sound quality isn't amazing. It's not bad, but not great. Obviously not as good as the Sony XB20 was, but that thing was $90. This was $60. So, for the price, I say this speaker has earned all 5 stars. (Also note that I'm kind of an audio snob - my wife thinks the sound is great, but I can hear the slight boxiness of it. It's not so bad that it bothers me. It's good enough. If you don't suffer from audio snobbery like me, then you'll be quite happy with the quality.)

Not quite.
The default sound setting sounds like any cheapo bluetooth speaker but this speaker is not cheap. The only other sound setting that is usable is the extra bass setting. This setting adds so much to the sound quality and actually sounds great, only problem is low end tones just wash out and ruin anything this speaker has going for it at any usable volume. Just too much bass for this little guy to handle. This should be put in the speakers description so people know not to buy it. The speaker is also strikingly smaller than the photos make it seem. aptX is sweet and should be standard in 2023, so no problem with latency. They got that right at least.

Good speaker but has a problem
Has a really good sound for a soundbar so small. I bought this to supplement the soundbar on my television. I have a hearing problem and really wanted the aptX Low Latency to avoid the "echo" effect if the speakers are not in sync. The Torpedo is easy to use, easy to pair, but also that is where the problem lies. The unit will often lose sync on the station I'm watching, but often remains good on other stations. The only remedy I've found so far is to re-pair with the transmitter on my TV. It is an Avantree Prima III which seems to work fine. It's also paired with my Audition Pro headphones and I've never had a problem between them. Other than the sync problem and a battery that is good for about 5 hours (it's listed at 6) the unit works as advertised and sounds great.

Works great, some suggestions & clarifications
I received this with the transmitter from Avantree and they work great together. Transmitter: Avantree Priva III I primarily bought it to have sound from the TV close to me so as not to keep the family awake when I watch while the rest of the clan is asleep. Couple things to note: 1) sound quality is good, but not great if you are using it for high quality music. Great for background... Bass is only OK (as you would expect from a small speaker) 2) I leave it plugged in, so am not too worried about turning it off and on. It's new so I don't know what that will do for long term battery. 3) When I undock, it travels through the house nicely. watching TV from a far room (like the kitchen) without it blaring through the house is my favorite feature. 4) audio sync is realtime. Lip sync is way better than older Bluetooth connections. Almost perfectly in sync with the tv sound if they are both on. 5) some reviews have complained about a loud beep. That ONLY happens when you push the volume button and it has reached the max or minimum. Volume can be controlled from the TV. (I have the transmitter hooked to the headphone port of the TV. I put the TV on mute, which does not affect the Headphone port. Volume from TV up/down works fine.) 6) the product comes with a USB cord, but not an AC-USB converter. Some usability feedback for Avantree: 1) the volume "up" volume button should be switched with the "mode" button. My intuition is the up volume button should be above the down volume, not behind it. The "mode" button does not need to be the most accessible button. 2) volume buttons should be continuous. Currently I need to repeatedly hit the button to get is softer and softer (or louder and louder). It's a step function. I should be able to hold them down, the volume should keep getting quieter or louder for as long as I'm pressing the button. Overall, I am very satisfied. The look is sleek, the feel is soft, the sound fully meets my expectations (Keeping in mind this is a small $60 speaker)

Update of earlier negative review ("No sound with Bluetooth or with direct wire connection")
It took me a while and a fair number of experiments to work this out, but the bar is now working and I am generally pleased. The most significant problem resolved was that the sound bar was incompatible with Firefox, my default browser. After switching to Chrome, difficulties receiving sound from the internet were fixed. I had not seen this particular fix mentioned in the fora I consulted for ideas. Before getting bluetooth to work, I had been able to correct the auxiliary wired connection. This was troubled by the extraneous noise, a hiss or buzz, that was omnipresent. This noise, which all but obviates any advantage in the bar vs. the laptop itself, is absent when bluetooth is used. Thus auxiliary is really not a serious option, at least for my set-up. Customer service was very attentive, but I had better luck on my own. The sound with bluetooth is satisfactory, definitely far better than my surface pro 6 produces. I am able to ramp up the volume with a program I use called Musescore, and it becomes plenty loud, though at some point there is, not surprisingly, significant distortion. Generally speaking I am satisfied with the product. I would comparison shop if a replacement were needed, but I might well purchase this again. It now works and sounds pretty much as I expected for a device at this price. I give it a "4" Positives are quality of sound and attentive customer service. It has also been trouble free once I got the Bluetooth to be functional. Negatives include auxiliary sound buzz and for difficulties in initial set-up. Also a bit surprised that the incompatibility with Firefox has apparently not been recognized previously. ORIGINAL POST: [I don't expect Bluetooth to work, and it didn't. The connection comes on and off, but no matter, there is no sound either way. This is why I selected a speaker for my Surface Pro 6 that could also be wired. This should be a no-brainer. Indeed, so obvious is the set-up for a wired connection that this option isn't even mentioned in the quick-start guide. However, NO sound with wired connection, either. If "Support" comes up with a simple fix promptly I'll revise the rating, but right now this is just another piece of junk cluttering my desk.]
