This (STILL) is THE book to buy! - UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW FURTHER BELOW: Since my review of this book, I've completed my solar panel install and it works great! Although I did some things a little differently from the exact approach in this book, overall the book was a HUGE HELP. I continue to recommend it to anyone considering a solar power system. Even if you have someone else install a system, this book will help you determine exactly what you need and how it should be installed correctly. I've attached a couple photos of my installation. Thanks in large part to the knowledge gained from this book my system works extremely well. The book gave me the exact info I needed to build it all myself, and the moment I turned it on I could tell everything worked perfectly. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This book is the best guide I've ever seen for the person who wants to install their own solar power system, but might not have a lot of mechanical skills, time for research and study, and/or money. Will Prowse is an excellent, careful and accurate writer, with a no-nonsense style. He clearly and simply explains the entire process of building a solar power system, from component selection to every detail of installation. Having this book is like having a skilled advisor at your side, walking you through each step from start to finish. I've got many years of experience building and living with 12 volt DC power systems, and I have very carefully studied the options and choices involved with building a solar electric system for my "Class B" motor home. This book is what has finally convinced me that a system suited for my specific vehicle, and how I live in and travel with that vehicle, can be built easily and within my budget. More importantly, this book has given me the confidence to build it myself, and the knowledge to manage and maintain that system. I highly recommend this book to anyone considering building (or simply owning) a solar power system, whether it will be in a land vehicle, boat, or off-grid cabin. This book can get you through buying and building, to using your system, easily and in literally just days or even hours. It's a purchase I will never regret.

A good primer
If you are considering using solar panels then this is a good book to start with. The author utilized many of these strategies in his own life when he lived in a motor home. The book is a quick read. One walks away with some positive ideas on how to proceed. The author also has a web site with product considerations. These are merely suggestions. The author also links to a user forum and many choose to purchase from other suppliers. The forum is very helpful. There the reader will have an opportunity to read more technical discussions on topics such as grounding, etc. For those who follow the solar world, this is a rapidly changing and evolving technology. It would be impossible to write a book that covers every venue and option. To do so would be to create a engineering nightmare that would take weeks to read and interpret. What the author has done is introduce the topic and provided some common sense ideas on how to proceed. It is a worthwhile read. It is also priced very reasonably. Its price is about what one would pay for a mid priced meal from a restaurant. The only difference is one is hungry the next morning after the meal. In this case, one would still have a reference they can refer to with other resources when considering this pathway. Also worth noting is that the author has a Youtube audience. He continues to offer product information and education on the topic. His positive attitude and helpful presentations make him a good ambassador for the topic.

would give 5 stars if 2.0 comes out
very simple read... id watch his videos on youtube as well, he is very detailed but he doesn't cover everything in his book which is why my head line reads as such love that he gives examples .... would love to see more examples and more complicated problems in general people always teach when everything goes right... when in reality what makes a professional is fixing things that go wrong.... you truly understand something when you can fix it ... not just the correct way.... does that make sense what im trying to say he doesnt talk about cleaning, panels... roof installations.... sun tracking stands... etc let me be clear, everything i know about solar is because of Will .... awesome book buy it I can definitely have a conversation about solar now because of Will and know what to look for but i wouldnt be comfortable building a custom system from this book ... I might attempt a complete package system

Great book without the fluff filler that other authors put in their books.
This is a very, very good book for those that just need to figure out how to set up a solar system. There is no fluff in it just to make the book bigger. It's just the simple facts on what you need to think about when selecting charge controller, inverter, battery size, amps, volts, watts, etc. In the book it also has the authors website which he has dedicated to providing more information and tests that he has run on batteries, controllers, etc. and provides you with what he feels is the best bang for your buck, if you decided to proceed with your plans and actually build a solar system. I give this an emphatic 5 stars.

Solar Made Easy Is Right
This book is fantastic. The book has a durable plastic spiral binding, it is only 89 pages long but is packed with good information with little to no fluff. Every paragraph contains the information you need. The book could walk a child through setting up a solar system. The book is well-organized and concise. The order in which the author has laid out the information is perfect, taking you from understanding electricity, calculating power needs, and setting up simple systems to larger systems. It lays out several scenarios from small and simple to large and more complex. He even breaks it down to "Lazy Method, The Minimalist, The Classic 400 Watt, The Off Grid King, and Ultra Lightweight. Great explanations on recommended battery bank size for each of the above scenarios, battery types best suited for solar, wire, and fuse sizes, and installation of same. He takes you through what you must have to what you can do without if money is an issue. I have followed the author on YouTube since I first entertained setting up an emergency solar backup system....he knows his stuff and is enjoyable to watch. I highly recommend subscribing to his channel, DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse. For such a young man, he is the go-to source for all things solar. If you are considering solar, this book is a must and I highly recommend checking out his channel if you are seriously considering doing anything solar.

The Solar Bible and not just for RVs perfect for all Solar setups.
This book is the best solar generator book EVER. The Holy Grail of solar books. Best for beginner and intermediate. Easy to read, photos, it's way bigger and in depth than I expected for the price. He really went above and beyond with providing so much info in one place. The author has an amazingly helpful youtube channel also. I don't own an RV, I'm a prepper, an eagle scout and I live in the Hurricane capital of the world. This book is extremely helpful and a great reference book to always look back on with charts, wire gauge recommendations, etc. You won't just read it once ypu will keep it nearby. I was building a generator with AGM batteries since they're cheap but I learned lead acid batteries only give half their amp hours as usable so a 100 amp hour lead acid battery is more so the same as a 50 amp hour LiFePo4 battery. That alone saved me a huge amount of trouble and lost money. Thank ya sir, you are a great and humble teacher. I enjoy your YouTube videos also. I'm hoping you add a second edition to cover wind turbines more in depth.

Short, Concise, Only What You Need To Know To Get The Job Done! Will Save You $$$$ !
This book is SIMPLE ! Simply written .. simply diagrammed with NO FLUFF! You need to put solar panels on your RV, this is the book. This is written by an author who is NOT TRYING to impress us with his knowledge, but is IMPRESSING us with the ability to show the READER ...EXACTLY with WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW to get the job done.! I've gone through a lot of Solar Installation books .. and the authors don't realize, they dismiss simple things that would clarify things so much better for novices ... like wire guage sizes, its as if every human being knows this stuff automatically (I grew up on the streets of NYC ... I can tell you the varieties of roaches ... but not wires), and complicated electrical things (and most author's simplified explanation complicates matters even more). It's laid out in a letter sized format that's easy to read. It's not 500 boring pages, like most authors with 400 pages of their books being big print, numerous blank pages and knowledge that will put you to sleep before you can get past their forward) ... Great job ... If I had this book first, it would have saved me MONTHS ... oodles of dollars trying to find out this info ..... as well as NOT purchasing the wrong products ... Great book (now let me see what other topics you have written) ...

Goed boek
Duidelijk beschreven, had alleen de plaatjes in het boek in kleur gewild. Is een goed naslag boekje. Ben tevreden. Aan te bevelen voor beginners, zoals ik. Geen communicatie met verkoper.

easy to read & understand for a dummy like me
This book is a great reference for DIY people, im starting to build an off grid solar system in NSW Australia and having it down on paper to cross check my items and wiring is awesome. Im using a Renogy 40A MPPT controller and 2 x 100w panels to a cheap eBay 100AH liFePo4, its currently connected to a battery box at the moment for portable power while i build my cabin. It also has a lot of tips and things to remember which is great for someone like me. Well worth the money.

Awesome book - thank you!
Been watching your YouTube channel which is great, to gain knowledge to put small solar on my shed for lights and garden lights then for our timber garden building which has mains power. Your book has been really helpful and I recommend it to anyone. My only comment is I am in the uk so mains in 240v and I wanted to set up a 24v system. Cos you’re USA based you are 110v and the book is only 12v. It took me ages to realise (as a newcomer to building solar systems) that all your calcs could be halved or doubled for 24v vs 12v. Just a line in the book could have explained that. I also struggled to calculate the charge controller size I needed as I had 4 x 320w panels connecting to a 24v battery pack (2x12v, will be 4). Not sure I found that calculation in the book - 1280w / 24 = 53a. I kept using the amps from the panels to calculate which is 20a so almost bought a 30a charge controller. Highly recommend this book, it’s so good at explaining all the principles, and to be fair the book is for RVs so I can’t complain about not the right info for a heavy duty domestic set up. Will use the book for my boat!

Semplice ed efficace
Ho preso questo libro dopo aver visto diversi video su YouTube dell'autore. Il testo è semplice e basilare ma efficace. Ottimo per chi come me parte da zero.
