It's really an August lock underneath
I added automatic door locks to my house several years ago so my bed-bound daughter could unlock the door for someone when I wasn't home. Since that time I've replaced all the doors in my house and added more August locks. I'm getting really tired of going through the CR123A batteries, so when I saw this lock, I jumped on the chance to give it a try. What a difference! First off, the keypad is so much better as part of the lock rather than a flimsy wall mount separate from the lock. I've had to replace both of my keypads more than once. This lock uses AA batteries instead of CR123A which are much cheaper. The lock and keypad work with the August app just like my other locks do. They all share users and codes, all work with my phone and my watch, and all will auto-unlock if I choose to use that feature. I have the model with the Wi-Fi module and it works exactly the same as my August smart Wifi Gen 4 locks. As times goes on, if I need to replace any.more locks, I'll probably change out the August smart Wifi locks for these. My only complaint is that I can't rekey these like I can the Kwikset deadbolt used with the August smart Wifi locks. Granted the key is just a backup if everything else fails, but I'd still like them all to be the same.

Dangerous, overheats and terrible battery usage
*****Updated Review May 2024**** Device errors and overheats I bought this lock in Nov 2022 (so roughly 1.5 years now) and would highly discourage anyone buying this lock as it is dangerous and overheats. The battery issue has always been terrible on this product. It last maybe 1 months tops before needing replacement, so I'm constantly burning through batteries. A couple months ago, the lock was low on battery, so husband replaced it and then less then a week later the lock was again low on batteries. I thought perhaps my husband mixed up the double A batteries and put the low batteries back in by mistake and just let it be assuming it was a mistake. Just last week, the lock started giving error sounds that it wasn't locked even though the door was locked and then indicated it was low battery, so I changed it. Again, less than a week later it was low battery and continued having errors. When I went to open the compartment to replace the battery, I could smell smoke, and when I removed the front 2 batteries, I could see that the top coil touching the battery was so hot it was glowing red. I immediately removed the rest of the batteries from the hot coil/device and burnt my finger with a small shock in the process. When I contacted Yale, they did a simple apology, didn't care at all that I burnt my finger, that the device overheats or care to fix/understand why it was having potentially dangerous issues, but that the device is over a year old and since it was, out of warranty, and the most the can do is offer 20% discount on the next product. Such a terrible response. I will not be buying another product from them, especially if it puts me or my household in a potentially dangerous situation. ********" When this works, it's wonderful but due to the terrible battery life and finicky app I wouldn't recommend it. Set up: not as straight forward and took a lot of trial and error. The app set up also wasn't included and I had to call for them to tell me how to set it up since this was too new at the time. Battery: this thing just chews through batteries. I'll need new batteries every month and there's no way to see battery life. You get a warning sound when its almost dead and then within a day it'll stop working and you won't be able to lock your door from the outside unless you manually do it. Also, Everytime I put new batteries in it resets my connection to the app.... App: laggy. I get booted everytime I put new batteries in.

Love at First Lock (and unlock)
We ordered this remote lock after a dog/house sitter locked themselves out one night when we were out of town. It was a bit of a nightmare but thankfully a neighbor came to the rescue with a spare key. The lock looks great and is very well made, very sturdy and heavy-duty feeling. The box and lock itself are pretty hefty which I was not expecting, but it's solid which I like. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward using the video walkthroughs in the app. Easy to connect to wi-fi, update firmware, and get synced up with our Google Home/Nest products. Very convenient to be able to lock and unlock the door anywhere using my voice, or via the app. It will be nice to provide access to family members or friends if necessary, as well as anyone we have dog or housesitting, and not have to worry about anyone losing a key or getting locked out. I've seen some reviews mentioning issues with auto lock and unlock, but we've not experienced any of those. Bear in mind, Yale states you need to be 200+ meters away from your lock before it enters that mode, so if you're just out for a walk in the neighborhood, you may not hit that threshold. But if we're going to and from work, shopping, etc. it has worked and unlocked every time we got home, even if one of us is already at home (which was a concern we had). We're interested to see what the battery life is like with it being connected to wi-fi via the smart module. It's unfortunate you can't check the battery level in the Yale Access App, but good to know we will be notified when the batteries need to be replaced. All in all, we're very happy with this purchase so far, less than a week in.

Nice modern clean look and good function
I love these locks. They are exactly what I wanted and more. I've only had them installed for a couple of weeks but they are working well. I like that they are Wifi enabled and don't depend on some other connectivity in the middle. I took my time to install these and I recommend you do the same. If the lock pocket is not clear so the mechanism can move properly the battery will likely wear out quickly. I spent a good 30 min manipulating my door frame with a chisel and a dremel tool to get it perfect. So far since I did that I've had zero issues with the lock working as expected. The actual install instructions are very well done. I like the included thickness guides. Just follow it step by step and it should go well. Initially you connect to the lock with your phone via bluetooth. This works fine and the lock can work this way indefinitely. The magic comes when you add the extra module. It includes Wifi and the best part is the magnetic sensor. The lock walks you through calibrating the sensor and once done it can tell you the status. It's open/closed, locked/unlocked. In addition to this I like the look and feel. I really hate the membrane type button locks on the market. I wanted a button I can see and feel and these have that. These are flat round buttons that light up so you can see them in the dark. The overall look is modern and clean. I do have two small functional complaints. First, I don't like that I have to hit a check mark button after I put in the code to activate the action. I would prefer if it activated as soon as the last digit of the valid code was entered. Second, while it looks nice the logo button activating the lock function is not clear. Put the logo above it and put a lock icon on it so it's clear. Minor complaints though. I really like the locks overall and unless I run into some unseen issue I will continue to buy these for my needs.

Easy to install and use. Great for STR properties. Lithium batteries provide long battery life
Bought 2 of these so far for short-term rentals. The main reason for purchasing these to replace other Wi-Fi locks is they integrate with Airbnb's and Hospitable's platforms and each guest gets their own code that is valid only during their stay. They are very easy to install. The first one I had no issues with install or set up and it's worked flawlessly. The 2nd one I had difficulty getting it to connect to the Wi-Fi because it is a mesh system. Followed the instructions and disconnected the secondary mesh router unit so only the main was used. It connected then I plugged the secondary mesh unit back in. Within a day, it lost connection. Contacted tech support and they said the lock will only work on a 2.4GHz network. The router broadcasts both over the same Wi-Fi so they advised I would need to separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz because it can switch between the 2. I asked how it could switch if it could only work on a 2.4GHz network and they couldn't answer that question and said if I continue to have this issue I may need to get a separate Yale hub. I checked my other lock on another property that uses the same type of router and noticed it was on the 5GHz network and I never had an issue with that lock... To get it to connect again, I had to wipe out the Wi-Fi connection again and start over and went thru the same process by disconnecting the secondary mesh router unit. It connected and I confirmed it was on the 2.4GHz network and it worked without issue. A few days later I checked on it and noticed it had switched to the 5GHz network but was still working without any issue. As I write this review, I checked it again and it's back on the 2.4GHz network. The first one I bought at another property continues to be connected to the 5GHz network on that Wi-Fi network. I set the app to give me notices whenever any of the Yale locks disconnect from the network and I do get notices the one that's operating on the 5GHz network was reconnected from time to time but it's never disconnected long enough for me to notice how long. Aside from the technical issue with the 2nd Yale Assure 2 lock, I really like these locks and how they integrate with STR platforms. They are very easy to use for guests. Have 4 other brands on other properties and the Yale Assure 2 is by far the easiest and most straightforward to open and lock. The touchpad locks can be confusing and cause issues for some guests and several have had to call me because the code was entered incorrectly too many times and it locked them out. Battery life - I was concerned about battery life from the reviews. The first lock I installed lithium batteries. 3 months later, the app shows they are still at 100% power. The 2nd lock was installed a month ago but also shows 100% battery life. Spend a few extra $$ and get lithium batteries for these locks. Appearance - these locks look great and are well built. Time will tell how they fare but I'm confident they will do well. Back up key - I opted for the locks with a backup key. If power is lost and there's an issue with the electronics, there is always a key in a lockbox guests can use and still get into the house. Door Sensor - I installed the door sensor in the door frame by drilling a hole. Despite being very careful to have a straight hole, there was still some play in the sensor and needed to put some tape around the sensor so it would stay secure in the hole. This feature is not all that important for our rental properties but is a nice feature. Yale Access App - the app is basic and functions well. I use it to unlock the door when I visit the properties and it works well. It's easy to change door codes from the app and being able to see the history of when the lock was locked and unlocked is sometimes helpful. With the door sensor installed, also logs ever time the door is opened and closed. I have now purchased 3 of these locks and got them all at a great price (like-new returns). The quality, ease of use, integration with Airbnb and Hospitable platforms, and the control and monitoring from the Yale Access app make these a great value. I am happy with them and recommend this lock.

Great lock, very configurable, batteries last months
These locks are a game changer. I almost never carry keys with me and I don't ever fear locking myself out of the house. You can put a number of codes for different people in it. Which is great if you have service people (dog walkers, house cleaners, etc) regularly coming to your house. The lock can join wifi so you can remotely administer it. The manufacturer says that can impact battery life (more frequent battery changes). That might be true, but even on wifi, batteries last about 5 months for us. Remote management came in HUGE for us when we were away on vacation and a dog sitter hired through Rover failed to show up. When she finally did she didn't even walk our dog and (I'm not lying) stole food out of our freezer and fridge. We were able to delete her code so she couldn't get back in the house and luckily found a neighbor to take in our dog while we were gone. Thanks to the logging this lock does and a security camera we have installed we were able to piece together her neglect. This lock is fairly easy to install if you have any sort of mechanical aptitude. If you can't turn a screw driver you'll probably find it complicated. The instructions are good and are fairly easy to follow. One complaint I do have: when we added a second lock there wasn't a way to apply codes already assigned to a person on the first lock to the second. In fact, you didn't even see the second lock under that person's profile. The work around was to delete their profile/account and then re-add. Once I added them back both locks appeared. This likely isn't a huge issue for most people, but if you have a bunch of people already keyed in with codes/accounts for the first lock you installed, needing to delete them to simply add them back in so their code/account can see the second lock is annoying. You can have different codes and limitations on entry (restricted to only certain days or times) for the same person on different locks. That's nice if you want your dog walker to be able to enter your front door, but not your separate in-law suite for example. Being able to restrict entry to only certain days/times is a really nice feature too. So, you can only allow someone in between 10am and 2pm M-F (not weekends) if you wanted. All in all I love this lock and gladly give is 5 stars. Hopefully they fix the account issue with a second lock down the road via an app update. If not, the workaround isn't too onerous.

Doesn’t play with other apps - no help available
I had the keyless version (which I loved) but had a user who needed a physical key, so bought the key version. It took me about 10 minutes to do the physical swap. I broke a nail trying to insert the plug — it’s at a terrible angle. The battery compartment is the single worse I’ve encountered - I felt I was going to break the battery cover prying it up, and it’s a weird configuration to save vertical space, but requires inserting them two deep — I hope the batteries last a long time! There are components including a “smart module” and “doorsense” that has two options of installation - neither are explained (I later learned the smart module is how the lock can connect to Wi-Fi and doorsense can determine if the door is open or closed). Setting up the Yale app was a breeze, but that’s when it all went south. I struggled connecting to any other app. My other Yale - which seemed the exact same just keyless - seamlessly connected to Alexa and Google Nest - Alexa won’t let me enable the skill because it can’t log into the Yale app (I reset my email and password, and still nothing). Google won’t let me install without using Nest, and the lock isn’t compatible with Nest. It says it’s compatible with HomeKit, but Apple killed HoneKit and I couldn’t connect. There’s just no way connecting a lock to any of these should be hard. Waited for 10 minutes on Support which said they had a one minute hold time - I give up. If you need a keyed lock or are okay using only the Yale app for remote entry, this is fine. If you want to integrate with your smart home get a different lock altogether — the keyless version works.

Avoid Yale Smart (Dumb) locks at all costs! The Hardware is Ok, but the software is too buggy
This newer lock is slightly better than the older version. Yale still suffers from very poor software, buggy wifi and Bluetooth connections. It never would report correctly or consistently on locking or unlocking events. Installation is painful because of software. I was not able to delete old access codes. Kept saying pending. I could not return this because I was just outside of Amazon's return window. I replaced it with a Schlage Smart lock. The Schlage installed easily, the software works great. I'm never using Yale again

Do not purchase in the UAE
This does not work in the UAE. Non existent support either. And seller unhelpful to return.

Does Not Work Outside USA/Canada – Not Suitable for UAE Buyers
I purchased this Yale Assure 2 from Amazon UAE, expecting full smart-lock functionality. While the lock hardware powers on and the keypad works, the smart features are unusable. This model requires the Yale Access app, which is not supported in this region. The app fails during setup with errors such as “unable to find manufacturing info” and rejects the serial number, making it impossible to activate the lock or use any smart features. In practice, this product only works properly in the USA and Canada, where Yale Access is officially supported. Selling it in the UAE without clear warnings is misleading. Without the app, this becomes an overpriced keypad lock, not a smart lock. This product should not be sold in the UAE unless regional app support is available or this limitation is clearly disclosed to buyers.
