How much weight can this product comfortably tolerate? I'm thinking of buying this for my parents but they are chunky people, so need a product that won't collapse.

i myself am 15 stone my neighbour about 16 stone sat on the bench together side by side there was very little movement.i hope this helps in your decision.

Is it waterproof and can you leave cushions in it and will they remain perfectly dry

Eddie, Absolutely 110% waterproof, I have garden pots gardening gloves a big bag of peat plus solar lights, been in there since last June year when I purchased my seat, all dry,and I have put my solar lights out, your cushions will be dry...No water gets in at all..hope this helps 
