Cheap and dead easy to fit.

I had a spare SSD which i wanted to use as extra storage for laptops in the house. I chose this due to the tool less design by the same brnad as one of my SSDs. It was easy to install my SSD inside and worked just fine. There is a switch to turn off the drive without disconnecting which is great for backup devices. However the cheap plastic case lacks a quality feel which i have had from other enclosures at a similar price point and the annoying bright blue LED indicating that its on cant be turned off and its a bit jarring in a clean setup or darkened area. Not bad for the money and easy to use but details sometimes spoil a good product

My Toshiba Satellite L-550 Pro laptop was ready for the e-waste shelf. I had the hard drive replaced back in 2015, so I wanted to take that out, as well as the RAM, before I dropped it at Curry's. Anyhow, the hard drive is the ol' Western Digital Black 500GB (WD5000LPLX). It has a 2.5-inch (Slim 7mm profile) form factor. The interface is SATA III. It is a little fiddly to get the drive in and slide it down, but once it clicks, you are confident it is inserted correctly. There is nothing to it. Remove the case top by sliding up and then lifting. Very easy to open. Plug in the included USB-A, turn it on, and it is plug and play. The Chromebox recognised the drive immediately. It was formatted into exFAT in less than a second. I did some file transfers and they were quick enough for me. I have no idea what speeds. I did transfer a couple gigs though. Now, I have a good external drive. The box says it is Windows and Mac compatible, but it works fine on a Chomebox, Chromebook whatever Chrome device you may have. Good, inexpensive purchase. Saves you from having to destroy a hard drive. The average person isn't capable of wiping it.

Great product for the money, has a better quality feel with chunky cable too. Good to have an off switch on the product.

Bought this to replace an old one that failed. Put the hard drive in and it works great.

I bought this to be able to connect an SSD to my Nintendo Wii, but I will likely be buying another one of these to use with another HDD or SSD to create a portable hard drive in the future. I've used Sabrent products before, and I've always been impressed with how intuitive their products are and how easy they are to use. In the box there are some instructions along with the enclosure and a USB 3.0 A male-to-male cable. The enclosure is designed for 2.5" inch drives, and it's quite straightforward to fit the drive inside the enclosure. While the enclosure is mostly plastic, it feels very well-made and would offer some protection to the drive inside. The speed of the enclosure is going to vary greatly depending on the drive you have inside it, along with the system you are connecting it to, but I got the levels of performance I expected during my usage with the enclosure having virtually no negative impact on speeds. Overall, this is a great, affordable enclosure that can be used for various tasks. I look forward to using the one I currently have more going forward, but I feel like I will be purchasing an additional one shortly. Update - July 2024: I ended up ordering another one for my PS5, as I had a 1TB SATA SSD lying around that I wanted to use with the console, as I was running out of storage. Similarly to last time, the enclosure is working exactly as expected and works well enough to store more modern games on it without any noticeable performance loss. As a general rule of thumb, these enclosures are only as good as what you put in them, as well as other limitations such as the device it’s connected to. Once again, I'm more than happy with the result.

I like the Sabrent disk enclosure because it has an on/off switch and a large blue LED that's very clear to see. The enclosure is made from smooth plastic. There are no rubberised feet underneath, but this is a very low-cost enclosure so I'm not surprised. It managed to take one of my old 9.5mm thick SSDs but can also fit the more modern 7mm drives. There's a loose piece of sponge that is presumably included to place on top of a 7mm drive so it's firmly held in place when the lid is on. This isn't the smallest 2.5" drive enclosure I have, so you can buy smaller ones if 12mm less in length and 2mm less in height makes much of a difference to you. A very generous 70cm long USB-A to USB-A cable is included. It's one of the thickest types of cable I've seen and usually used for super fast 10Mbps or high-wattage devices. But this enclosure is neither of those. I tested a couple of SSDs and they achieved between 400 and 450 MB/sec, which is the most I would expect from them with their SATA3 interface. The outside packaging said that Acronis True Image is included for free, but there's nothing inside the box that tells me how to get it. No download link, QR code, or any other reference to it apart from what it said on the box. But that's okay as I'm not bothered and the product description on Amazon didn't say it was included. The packaging includes a lot of foam to keep the enclosure safe during transit, but it can't be recycled so I think they should stop using the material when other manufacturers use card and their products have always arrived safely. Overall it's a good drive, very cheap and great value for money, especially with the long cable.

Doesn't Fit Crucial MX500 despite the wrote ( Optimised for SSD ) & that's because of it's tow screws holes design in the enclosure but it worked with other SSD brands & also it can fit other 2.5 old thin laptop IDE hard drives, it's really fast using USB 3.0 on my MacBook Pro mid 2012 9,2 model and it's Aluminum is doing a greate job dissipating the heat as it cools down quietly, The product is slim & not bad except for Crucial MX500 and/or other Crucial Solid State Disks that uses the same dimensions despite being very thin SSD but the width doesn't fit plus it's not easy to be opened and close because the use of screws and I think the other Sabrent metal Enclosure types is better although its bigger and not slim because they seems to be easier to use offering the same USB 3.0 speed .

EVERY Sabrent device/accessory I've purchased has MORE THAN EXCEEDED any and ALL of my expectations! ... This hard-sided portable external hard drive "EVA" case is THE BEST YOU CAN BUY! This case is SUPER-Tough and really well made of very strong materials that I am sure will "wear" VERY well in the long-run use and abuse that most people will put these cases through. The zipper "pull" is soft and rubbery which provides a nice amount of grip compared to just a regular stainless steel tab. The lining is very soft without being "linty" and the elastic retainer strap and mesh accessory pocket are very sturdy and well attached to the case's hard, internal shell. It might fit just one WD "Passport" series drive, ... BUT it will EASILY FIT 2 Toshiba Canvio "Slim" drives and still have enough room for both of their "patch" cords AND still have comfortable room left for 4 (or more, if they are super small "low-profile" type) USB flash drives and/or a couple of SD cards with adapters (or USB card readers, etc.)! Compared to any other EVA Hard Carrying Case Pouches for External 2.5" Hard Drives offering the same basic features, this case IS FAR SUPERIOR! ... Especially when you consider that it can be had for around half the price of any "nearly comparable" competitor's hard case for 2.5" external HDDs. SABRENT DESIGNS AND MAKES REALLY SOLID AND SENSIBLE ACCESSORIES. THEY ARE ALWAYS MY FIRST CHOICE!
