Yes, it does but not an unpleasant one. It's a light fragrant scent that's not comparable to something else that I know of. It's nice.

is this any good for afro hair

Not really. A product generally for mixed hair. I am mixed white and black-carribean was ok in my hair (could do with a bit more hold and moisture). I also tried in my daughters hair (thicker and more afro than my own) and I wouldn't choose to use it again in her type of hair. Try the Cantu range.

Would it be possible to use this on dry hair by mixing a small amount in a spray bottle with water and spraying the hair?

I am sorry I do not know if you can put it in a spray bottle with water, but you can definitely use it on dry hair just as it is...
