For the people that own them what tehniques do you use with your sharpener as it doesn't seem to be effecting my knife

Don't use this sharper like a Chef's Steel! It's too short for that. You'll have your fingers off! Take the sharpener in your dominant hand and hold the knife in your other hand, EDGE AWAY from you. Holding the handle of the sharpener behind the blade (handle between your body and the back of the knife) move the sharpener left and right across the edge in easy even sweeps. Don't saw on the knife. Shallow angle for sushi, steep angle for wood, or something between. It should feel like shading in with a pencil, maybe a little scratchy at first until you have established a good bezel. Do one side for a bit then flip your hand over and do the same until you have an even bright band of sharpened edge bezel. You know when you're getting a good apex because as you do one side the burr rolls over on to the other evenly. At first you can use a fair bit of pressure to establish the apex but as the edge gets finer reduce pressure to work out scratches until the sharpener feels like its floating on air. If you're not getting a good edge you either aren't apexed or you're using too much pressure. Patience. Keep flipping sides until the burr disappears. You can reduce the burr by periodically cutting in to a roll of paper. If too much residue clags the sharpener scrub it off on paper or cardboard. Test the blade edge on a single sheet of paper to find the spots that need finishing. It'll snag and leave a tuft on any burrs or dog-teeth. The finer the edge the thinner the paper it will slice. When the blade goes cleanly and smoothly all the way from from base to tip you're done. For razer steel you can then strop on a leather belt. Stainless and harder steels can be stropped using a polishing compound too, such as Autosol or Jeweller's Rouge. Doing a Pen Knife takes a couple of minutes. Restoring a knackered hunting knife can take hours, but you can do it in dribs and drabs without having to mess about soaking stones and closing up all the time.

Can it be used to sharpen small victorinox knives e.g. the swiss card knife or the classic sd knife?

Yes. It is perfect for a pocket pen knife and much easier to use than a full sized whet stone.

Can this sharpener be used on serrated blades? Cheers.

To sharpen serrated blades a Lansky Sharpener Ps-Med01 'Blade Medic' would be excellent as it has a pointed diamond file and also, a splendid ceramic semi-pointed bar. It's very good for the price and you can buy it on Amazon here for £12.69, saving over £8. I have one in addition to this splendid dual knife sharpener by Victorinox. (Actually, it's produced in Germany, but very high quality). I wouldn't be without it. :)

Is this light enough to carry in a rucksack?How much does it weigh?

The sharpener weighs 30grams (just over 1oz) and measures 143mm long, 17mm wide and 5mm thick (excluding the pocket clip). The fact that it has a pocket clip is a clue to how small and light this is. It would not cause any problems in a rucksack.

Excellent field sharpener.

Great little stone and ceramic sharpening system for out and about ! I've been using this now for over 2 years and it still works great for getting the edge back on blades when you need it . Carried in my rucksack along with a strop and compound you get a usable sharp blade in under a minute. Of course it helps to always keep your knives sharp before you trek out but if you dull your blade chopping up some branches for firewood or even preparing a meal around the campsite, a sharp blade is essential and this little stone will quickly get the job done ✔️

Surprisingly good !

Buying a sharpening tool for a penknife might seem a bit extravagant, but I have multiple similar knives and I do like to have the right tool for the job. This tool enables you to put a really sharp edge on a blade, assuming the steel is good enough, and I’m very pleased with it. Recommended.

Essential piece of kit for Knife care.

I love this.I always had a problem sharpening my knifes.When I got into Bush Crafting , I need a sharpening tool. I had tried sharpening stones and other sharpening equipment but nothing made my knifes sharp or gave it a great edge.I started to collect Victorinox knifes and saw this.The build quality looks simple but you'd be deceived. it it such a clever design. with dual functionality , not only do you have a sharpening stone but also a quick sharpener on the opposite side, all in a pen/pocket sized shape. It's robust and should last a lifetime.Because of this Item all of my Victorinox are razor sharp. A task that I could never achieve with other methods of sharpening.
