Good radio receiver
I use the RTL-SDR with home assistant to monitor the radio signal from my kerosene tank level sensor and also use it with an old British Gas electricity meter clamp to measure the house electricity consumption. It took a bit of figuring out but works flawlessly now using RTL_433 in home assistant. The RTL-SDR I a great little piece of kit and you can use it to receive all sorts of radio signals. If you use RTL_433 discovery in home assistant you will no doubt see all sorts of radio signals around you, including the tyre pressure monitors of cars driving past!It is slightly larger in size than a normal usb dongle and comes with a selection of different aerials to use with it. It is well made and sturdy in what I guess is aluminium.I’d recommend this to anyone if they are interested in projects like mine.

Amazing
Great little kit, performs well.I've noticed a few software glitches, e.g. if you sit on a specific frequency for too long you'll have to restart the process again to retune further.Gets quite hot but hasn't failed so far. The magnet isn't stuck onto the stand very well so I have to fully extend the antenna to weigh it down.Probably not a great first impression to new users, the drivers have to be manually installed using external software, and there's no help provided directly by NESDR as far as I'm aware (this may be inaccurate).Otherwise brilliant, a great product considering the price.

I was impressed but short lived !!!
***EDITED***I was impressed but short lived !!!From my technical mind this thing needs a heat sink and fan, after a few hours use the usb extension got too warm then started to have random disconnects, assuming it was just the lead that was faulty I taped the lead to my work bench so it couldnt move, I also strapped two old motherboard heat sinks either side of nooelec using thermal pads. This helped cool the device somewhat but fear the dodgy lead/heat has damaged something internally. Now it just keeps crashing and disconnecting even without the extension. A real PITA because i've just ordered a better antenna to go with it :(***EDIT***After further reading and testing I can confirm the usb extension lead was faulty. The nooelec will certainly benefit from a usb hub too (It remains connected in windows device manager if you get a crash) the added heatsinks and thermal pads i added certainly help cool the device for my needs and should be an after thought for long term use. It's been running solidly now 24/7 for the past few days but will drop one star for the dodgy cheaply made usb extension.A cool purchase for venturing into the world of SDR

Excellent value for money.
Signal quality is excellent from the SDR reciever, tunes very easily on my tablet or pc. My only issue is the unit itself seems to struggle to conenct to usb ports and requires a bit of downward pressure in order to be picked up by devices. I have taken it apart and see no issues on the device, so it may well just be a bad device in a batch, as my others work fine. I just never got around to returning this one in time. For the price of the unit, it is a high-quality, robust product and offers great value.Easy to use and to set up, just download the driver and software from the NOOelec site.

High Quality SDR which works with Mac and Linux
The NESDR SMArt v5 Bundle comes with 3 aerials, short one is for UHF ( suitable for 500MHz - 1900MHz), the mid size for 70cm (400MHz - 470MHz) and telescopic aerial can be adjusted to the desired frequency. If you know the frequency range you want to tune in, you can achieve very good results by using telescopic aearial and any online Vertical Antenna Calculator.I have used this SDR mainly for Weather Baloon Radiosonde Tracking with Raspberry Pi4 2GB and software from SQ6KXY.Over the weeks I have tested it with Mac and many different flavours of Linux on a X86_32, X86_64 and ARM 32bit and 64bit (Raspberry Pi) platforms. Each and every time SDR was recognised without any issues. My unit has been in 24/7 operation for for several weeks now, while it gets fairly worm, it works reliably. It can receive clear signal from radiosonde 200km away at 30,000m altitude with 1.5m diapole antenna. The digital signal is clear and received messages do not contain errors.I have tested it on most Amateur Radio bands too, and ADS-B for flight tracking all with great results.I can highly recommend NESDR SMArt v5 Bundle to any radio enthusiast. I will be ordering more of those SDR's for my RX project to be able to cover more frequency ranges at the same time. All the best

Adsb flight radar
A good product in overall. I aet it up for my plane tracking system within my homelab, it works as it should be.Bonus point, once you start streaming to the online plane tracking system, you'll get a premium account from them.

RTL-SDR v5 Bundle
Nooelec RTL-SDR v5 Bundle. Great bit of kit, very easy to set up. Works well with cubic-sdr. I would recommend a better antenna if you want to pick up more channels.

Good quality, good fun.
At first I had a problem installing the software following the instructions from an online provider when some files just wouldn't open. I think this might have been a problem with my computer, however, after a short while I received an email direct from NooElec (Amazon must send them your email address after purchase) and by following their instructions I was up and running in no time at all, albeit with a different software from the one I had been trying to install. I am now learning to use the software and enjoying the fun of it all. The SDR dongle is a solid piece of kit and the antennas although small seem to be of good quality and do work. I am now thinking of building a discone antenna for greater coverage of the bands.
