Very good heater for your smaller fish tanks 👍🏻
4th heater I’ve tried, this one is by far the best, keeps a very steady temperature. Very pleased with it, would definitely recommend it for your smaller tanks 👍🏻

Good value intelligent heater
UPDATE: Oct 2013 Still think this is a great product. No problems at all. Easy too keep clean. Still looks like new. Currently checking with FLUVAL as I have been told this range has an auto shut off if you forget to turn the heater off when draining the tank ( does not say this on their site though). I will post another update once I have had feedback from Fluval. Original review This is a great little heater keeps the water temp very stable. I have a digital thermometer probe in the tank 2 as a double check for even heat. I bought this heater after I broke my original and very basic heater by doing a 25% water change without letting it cool down or switching it off! Not even this heater will stand up to that, however the cage surrounding the heater tube would catch any glass should you make the same mistake, though its primary function is to avoid cooking you fish from close contact. The colour change backlit LCD screen is very handy and easy to ready. Red - too hot / Green - just right / blue - too cold, plus water temp in Centigrade or Fahrenheit. Adjusting the temperate is very easy in situ as well, with a simple and sturdy lever at the top of the unit. Theoretically you could get ride of your thermometer to make your tank more aesthetically pleasing through less clutter. (but best to have non electrical backup thermometer IMO in case of power cuts) The unit samples the water directly, rather its own internal temperate, to give accurate readings. Other features are: 1) to be able to detect low water circulation around the unit to avoid hot and cold spots and displays a flashing screen with LF for low flow if detected. This works well e.g. if you place the heater too near a side, vegetation or the bottom.. 2) flashing warning if external factors raise or lower the tank temp by 3 degrees or more. The unit also comes with two fixing bracket options to allow you to back mount in your tank and and an angled bracket for corner fixing. The suckers are very strong and also adjustable so you can more accurately raise or lower the height of the unit in your tank All in all a well thought out and well made heater.

Came with the wrong plug fitted
Great heaters, unfortunately the one I ordered came with a two pin plug and not a UK three pin one so I had to return it as I couldn’t use an adapter in the space I have set up

Take off the bottom half of the casing it insulates the heat and affects performance
you have to remove the bottom half of the casing/grill, i found this hugely impacted on the performance of the heater, the plastic seems to insulate the heat, for 2 days it was constantly in the blue and it could never get temp up by more than 0.5deg unless the room was hotter than the tank i read on a forum that people take off the whole guard and use it and its fine but you lose the mounting if you do this, when i removed the whole guard you can see only the bottom half of it actually covers the heating section the rest is all circuitboard, so i removed just the grille section this means you can still use the mount Now it works perfect, within minutes of removing the grill it actually started to heat the water so im sure that it was the problem, i have a mercury thermometer at the opposite end of the tank and its always same temp as the heater is reading so accuracy seems fine i got the "low flow" warning, which also apparently will cause the heater to turn off again affecting performance, ignore the instructions, i angled the heater so that it was at about 20-30 deg and ive never had it since Its a good heater but you need to adapt it to suit your situation, the digital display and adjuster are nice features

Excellent heater if you DONT folllow instructions!!
This heater was bought to replace an Interpet heater which came with my Interpet Pod 64 litre tank and had started to heat uncontrollably. I followed the instructions to the letter, placing the new Fruval e100 heater vertically (old heater was placed diagonally so this was odd for me), but after a couple of hours the temp started dropping. Eventually after a day or so, instead of 25oC it was 22oC and falling! I trawled the internet to read any forums I could find regarding this heater and found it is a very common problem with the Fruval heaters! The solution? Fully submerge it, tip it diagonally (something the instructions tell you NOT to do) and make sure there is a good flow of water around it, ie, point your filter at it. Switch it off for 1 minute, switch it back on, without pausing too long adjust the heat to max then drop it to the minimum and then reset the desired heat, in my case 25oC. This, buy the way, was alternative advice posted on a forum by a customer that had allegedly received this advice from Hagan (makers of the Fruval heater) when they got in touch desperate for answers! I thought, what the hell, i'm going to loose my fish if I dont try something. So I placed my Fruval e100 diagonally at 45 degrees, the filter is pointing at it and it is fully submerged and reset the temp as stated above. The temp started to rise from the disasterous 22 gradually thoughout the day right up the the 25oC and it hasn't fluctuated yet! You just have to play around with it in your tank to get the right flow around it and you're sorted. This worked for me and it seems a few others too. Most excellent, EXCELLENT heater! It was about to go back to the shop but glad I hunted around the forums for an answer first! Hagan need to totally rethink their instruction leaflet they supply with the heater and online or they are going to continue to have customers returning heaters to them or retailers for a replacement which may be found to be also `problematic'! Surely, cheaper to put corrective advice on their website?!!! The LED temp window is bright and easy to read (unfortuntately, it reads sideways now but hey ho...). Back light is green when temp of water matches temp you set heater at using the little orange lever at top of heater. Very easy to do. If it fluctuates by 1 full degree lower than your setting the screen turns blue. If one degree higher, the screen turns red giving you time to sort the problem. If it rises beyond 1 degree extra the red flashes. There is no red indicator light to tell you it is heating but you would very quickly know if there was a change by the temp window colour! I dont think it needs it, besides if you are bothered you can see the element glow if you peer in! From any position in my livingroom, I can see my heater is working fine. Happy bunny.

The only model of heater I would ever buy and trust!
Lots of bad reviews on here about heater not getting warm enough.. i just bought two and those join another 3 I already own.. Just to say i have never, but never had a problem with this model of heater and would choose this over any and all overs. It's simple it's effective and it works.. I placed the two new heaters in two different tanks and bingo.. within a couple of hours, if that it turned from blue (too cold) to green and has stayed stable ever since.. as they all do for me. It's great for when you have pet sitters.. the temp is really clear and ultra simple to see at a glance.. no guessing what the temp is.. it says.. and shows blue for too cold, green for just right and red for too hot.. I never have mine vary by more than a few degrees even in winter or summer. In some of my tanks it flashes LF for low flow as in low water flow to distribute the heat.. but this doesn't ever affect the performance To those who complained about the heaters not getting hot enough I'd say a) I have never had that problem and b) vital to remember that fish rarely die fast from getting a few degrees under 25 (not that i've had that happen) they might be uncomfortable but they wouldn't die.. whereas if you have a heater overheat they die within an hour..trust me I Know as the two I just bought were because I intalled another brand.. and overnight it overheated and killed my fish :( This is the ONLY model I will ever buy.. i should have stuck to my guns and bought these sooner as then I wouldn't have lost my fish :(

Had these for a few years. Time to Change Them
These heaters are wonderfully compact and aesthetically pleasing. Their display is clear and easy to read, which is a definite plus. However, after using them for about two years to regulate temperatures in tanks for neo shrimp, I've noticed some drawbacks. While they look great, their accuracy falls short of what Fluval claims. Like others have mentioned, I've encountered the 'LF low flow' warning frequently, and adjusting them to the desired temperature and maintaining stability can be challenging. It's disappointing that what could have been a premium product is marred by sensor inaccuracies. I'll be swapping out the three I own for a more traditional type.

Very sturdy piece of equipment
I bought this heater for my turtle's tank a few months ago as an upgrade to my 10w heater - it's heading towards winter, and I don't tend to keep the heating on. It's able to maintain a temperature of 26.5°C in a 50L tank (with about 18 litres of water in it) in a very cold room, I would recommend a higher wattage for people with more water in their tank or who require a larger change of temperature. The casing is extremely sturdy, a crucial factor for any turtle owner - they like to sit on or under it occasionally, which would scald them if it was not shielded by the thick plastic. I am also extremely impressed by the strength of the suckers, it's quite hard to get it off the wall of the aquarium! I contacted Fluval's customer support using the phone number included in the manual, as the instructions suggested keeping the heater vertical, which would leave much of it exposed in the tank I use for the turtle, they said that it's fine to have it horizontal as well, so long as it doesn't touch any of the sides. The blue, green and red screen is very useful for monitoring the tank's temperature at a glance (blue = under target temperature, green = target temperature, red = over target temperature). I have also read that it warns you if your tank has low water circulation, but I have not tested this. it's very easy to adjust the temperature, simply nudge the orange switch at the top to the left or the right to increase / decrease by 0.5°C
