Fish Mate P7000 Automatic Pond Fish Feeder

I purchased this automatic pond fish feeder to cater for my Koi etc whilst away on holiday. It came with adequate instructions to suit my needs although it took a little getting used to at first but once mastered the digital settings are fairly easy really. Assembly was simple and the the feeder sits neatly on the pond edge and the food is delivered into the pond via the spout. The food hopper is large and would easily cater for a week or more away. There are 3 daily food settings which you can set to suit your own needs, either once, twice or three times a day at times set by you. You can also set the amount of food delivered on each occasion. These are set up by an incremental number scale. Do not make the mistake of assuming as I did that these numbers equate to a second each, they are some kind of unit. Test the feeder out on a bench first so the food is delivered into a tray and weigh it. 5 units equates to about 17g and 10 units equates to about 33g. The measurements over a period of time are fairly accurate. Once tested and set up you are good to go and set it on the pond edge. All in all the product looks to be well made and does exactly what I asked it to do, feed my fish regularly whilst absent. I am pleased with what I have seen so far and have only not given it five stars as I want to test its reliability over an extended period and its claimed waterproof abilities. I will report back at a later date on this aspect. Edit - after a prolonged soaking in heavy rain this morning it seems to have passed its waterproof test. The food in the hopper remained bone dry and all is working well. Further update - I have has this running for about 3-4 weeks now and it delivers the right amount of food right on time every time. The clock seems to be very accurate so does the amount of food delivered. Really pleased with this product, it does exactly what is claimed. Excellent, upgraded to 5 stars. Update 18/08/19 - Still working fine. It delivers the right amount of food on time every day. I should just add that I use Tetra Pond Variety Sticks and these do NOT jam the mechanism or become moist and block the spout. Further update (22/10/2020 - still going strong and delivers the right amount of food at the right time.

After reading reviews on all the available fish feeders, I decided on this one as it had the capacity I needed. First impression was that it is well made, setting up is logical and easy once you've read the instructions. We use fish sticks as food, I checked the size to make sure it was compatible with the feeder. Loaded the hopper about a quarter full and ran a three feed program over a few days to check feed amount and operation etc, catching the food in a bowl. First few feeds were delivered just right, then it started having problems. The feeder has a built in food jam clearing operation in the event of the food dispenser getting blocked, it reverses the direction of the food delivery rod (a spiral metal rod that rotates through the feed spout) for a few revolutions then tries to feed normally. Mine started doing this every time it tried to deliver a feed. It would start the feed operation correctly, but then go into the jam clearance routine. I checked the hopper and feed to see if there was a blockage, there wasn't, the food was free to move in the feed tube. Also when in the jam clearance mode, rather than reverse for a few rotations as it did initially, it started to continue driving backwards to the point where it started to lift the hopper off the base unit, the motor sounded very noisy at this point as it was now working harder than normal. After resetting, trying new batteries, and speaking to the supplier and Fish Mate themselves it became clear there was no solution other than to return the product for a refund. The supplier Aquatix-2u-Ltd and Fish Mate were both very helpful and the refund process was easy and quick. Unfortunately both were awaiting stock so I could not try a replacement unit to see if this problem was a one off. It's a shame because in all other respects I think this would be the ideal product. Update... So Having returned the faulty fish feeder, I took a chance on a replacement unit and have relied on it for 5 weeks while we were away. It worked perfectly and is still set up over the pond. Ive changed the rating to four stars based on this units performance, and hopefully it will continue to be reliable.

We bought this last year to feed the fish on our pond, as we were going away for two weeks. It worked lovely and the fish quickly understood that hanging around underneath it was a lucky spot. It is simple to use and set up, I especially like that you can program a wide variety of portion sizes, as our pond is quite big and we wanted to make sure that all the fish got a bit. I couldn't put it high up so nailed it to the side of the pond. I noticed that some of the birds were smart enough to sit on the pond netting and get their beak inside, so I bent a piece of wire around the feed tube so that it was harder for them (without restricting the flow out) and it seems to have worked. It was so handy we continued to use it for the rest of the summer, before bringing it inside in the autumn. UPDATE: Unfortunately, when I went to set it up again this summer, the feeder kept freezing up. I rang the manufacturer's number on the inside of the battery compartment and they were really helpful and very quick to offer to replace it. They said it has a three year warranty, I emailed them proof of purchase and they sent a replacement really quickly, I can't fault that! (and the fish are happy too!)

Had feeder for two years now no problems at all with it, one set of batteries last all year. In winter i remove it from pond clean it and store in shed until spring.

A previous reviewer wrote a similar review so I will update it with my experience. It works well, I would agree. Easy to program and I would also agree. Holds loads of fish food and the batteries last ages. The pipe that feeds the fishes fell off and I noticed that it was poorly secured so I added duct tape to it in an attempt to fasten it. This in its self should be a red flag but not expecting the worst I continued over the next two years. It has been munched by rats.. I actually witnessed the hairy lad waitingfor the time to dispense. They eat the green plastic pipe away underneath and or the foxes do as it is not secured the main unit in any major the whole hopper drops all the food and completely contaminated the pond killing 50 fish! If I could sue for loss of stock I would. Not ideal when on holiday for a week! I also covered the pipe in mesh previous to this event which kept them at bay for a period of two days. but within two days of my holiday they munched that!! Have bought one of these feeders and would not buy another, nor do I recommend you do, unless you want total fish death. As the other review said "If the plastic pipe could be replaced by a steel pipe (preferrably stainless steel) then it would be a world beater" and also secured to the unit better. The hopper also needs to be secured to the base!. One gust of wind!... the unit also needs to be water proof!. A black bag is not the solution!

When it works it does a good job with multiple options for the size and frequency of feeds and a large hopper for the food. However, rainwater gets under the transparent plastic covering of the LCD display. During the last winter we kept it in the dry garage without batteries; now, in the spring, with fresh batteries it does not work - it does not respond to the programming buttons. We purchased it 18 months ago and it has a 3-year guarantee, therefore we have emailed the manufacturer and will see what happens.

This was purchased after a bad experience with the more expensive SUPERFISH KOI FEEDER which, after repeated issues, was returned for a full refund. The FISH MATE P7000 was easy to set up although the instructions are a little confusing at first glance. However, following them step by step, everything set up as planned. The delivery mechanism is basically a slow rotating Archimedes Screw and the quantity of food delivered depends on the time the screw turns. And this can be set by the user, as can the feeding times (3 per day maximum or there is a "little and often" setting which basically feeds the fish regularly throughout the day!) So far the unit has been feeding twice a day for 5 days without any problems. It hasn't rained yet so I'm waiting to see if that causes any issues. An update will follow in due course. The feeder has now been running for over 2 weeks during which we had a very violent thunderstorm and a lot of heavy rain. This didn't cause any problems, so I'm feeling quite confident it will be perfectly OK if used during holidays. My only slight concern was that strong winds might blow the hopper off once it has only a little food left, so to ensure this doesn't happen I've secured it with a strong elasticated strap. I think this feeder is a very good machine.

I had one of these feeders and have to say it was excellent. The only problem we had was that Russell (the local crow!) figured out that if he tapped on the spout he could get food out - not for himself but as bait!!! He tapped the spout, the fish came up for food and Russell grabbed them and ate them! We solved the problem by laying a piece of mesh under the spout about 2" off the pond surface so the food dropped through and Russell couldn't get the fish. We came back from holiday to find the feeder on top of the mesh, half submerged. On checking our CCTV cameras we discovered that Jamie (the local Foxx!) had been into the pond, pushed the feeder over, and stood on the mesh to get to the food, which resulted in the feeder ending up under enough water to get into the mechanism, the lcd display and the hopper. By the time we got to it, the food was waterlogged and mouldy and the unit was steamed up and wouldn't work even after drying it out so it went in the bin. I thought I'd just buy another unit but can somebody tell me when they almost tripled in price??? I'm sure I paid about £30 for ours so couldn't believe it when I discovered Amazon now want nearly £80! Time for the Heath Robinson in me to get on the case! For those with larger bank account than mine, I would happily recommend this feeder. Mine was reliable and always fed them twice a day as programmed. The hopper is one of the largest you can get but it still only held enough food for about 12 days (we've got 80 fish), but it was not to much of an imposition to ask my neighbour to top it up every 10 days while we were away, not like having to ask him to go in every day to feed them.

Mengeneinstellung muss man sich sehr genau an die Vorgaben halten, dann klappt alles. >Die Befüllung ist mit dem sehr praktischen Klackdeckel sehr gut zu handhaben. Kein Schrauben, kein Drehen, kein Verkanten. > Ich habe den Automaten dann erst paar Tage laufen lassen und habe die genaue Futtermenge immer wieder kontrolliert. I purchased this to feed my turtles while I am away for more than 3-4 days. I also have a small Eheim auto feeder for short durations away, but I needed something that could feed them for at least 2 weeks and this would likely last a couple months or more with the large hopper bin! Originally intended for winter use only as I house the turtles in the basement in winter and they go outdoors for summer, but this will be ideal outdoors as well. I am guessing as I haven't measured specifically but I'd say it holds about 2 gallon sized pails of food. That is the equivalent of 2 of the Reptomin 2 lb size of food pellets for turtles, which I also buy on Amazon. It was easy to install, assemble and set up, instructions no problem to follow were clear and simple. Setting meal times was easy to accomplish, with the ability to set 3 feedings per day. The trick is to get the meal SIZE correct. I initially only went through the procedure once but after a week realized it was feeding far more than required so I re-did it this time using a lower setting. I think the problem was that initially the auger isn't full so first result was skewed as the auger remains full after it starts so would of course release more food as a result. I recommend going through the meal size setup up to 5 times to get it accurate. Also has manual feed and an off setting, nice. I have had this for a few months and it works flawlessly. Only drawback is battery changes - instructions say must be changed within 60 seconds or all settings are lost. That might be a challenge to do in 60 seconds...haven't had to yet so we'll see! The feeder must be secured, in my case because it was in the basement and would be undisturbed by weather or wildlife outdoors I didn't think it was necessary until I realized any movement can cause food to fall out of the chute as the chute & auger remain full at all times. My turtles are quite active so bumping up against the sides of their tub or jumping off the basking dock caused enough movement to release food they didn't need. I zip-strapped it securely and tightly to a shelf across the top of the tub to prevent movement. Very happy with this purchase, very versatile and inexpensive compared to others I looked at.

Pond Fish l'ho testato per alcuni mesi e devo dire che sono soddisfatta e lo consiglio.L'unica pecca è che non ci sono le istruzioni in italiano per cui ho dovuto perdere tempo per la traduzione e la stampa,e poi mi sono aiutata con il video del produttore,che era in lingua madre senza la possibilità di traduzione,per cui mi sono aiutata ralle tando le immagini,per il resto tutto bene
