Providing a hard-wearing finish, it is ideal for surfaces such as kitchen worktops, tables and all high quality interior wood. With no added dryers, is a natural product, which can be used on toys and objects in occasional contact with food* such as salad bowls, etc. Being a penetrating oil, it allows the wood to age gracefully and develop a natural patina. Recommended for use on exterior oak.PREPARATIONEnsure the wood surface is bare: remove any wax finishes with Libéron Wax and Polish Remover and any varnish finishes with Libéron Fine Wood Stripper. Clean, dry and ensure the surface is dust free.APPLICATIONReady to use. Apply Tung Oil using a brush or lint-free cotton cloth. For ease of application dilute the first one or two coats with a little bit of white spirit. Allow the oil to penetrate for 20 to 30 minutes then wipe off the excess oil using a clean lint-free cloth. Allow to dry for 24h between coats. Apply further coats of Tung Oil as above, reducing the amount of white spirit used with subsequent coats. Again allow 24h to dry. Apply the last one or two coats of Tung Oil undiluted, as in previous applications. After the final coat has been applied and the excess removed, leave for 24h and wipe over again to aid drying and remove any oil that may have surfaced. We recommend a minimum of 4 coats; more coats will be required for porous or external surfaces. For best results, gently rub with Libéron Ultrafine Steel Wool (grade 0000) between coats. Leave for a few days before use to allow the Tung Oil to dry fully.ADVICEFurniture items may be finished with Libéron Black Bison Wax for an improved lustre.Maintenance: Pure Tung Oil must be maintained on a regular basis. Apply at least once or twice a year or more if required, depending upon exposure to the weather and usage. On exposed external timbers it is important to apply sufficient coats of oil to give the initial protection.Tung Oil is extracted from nuts and may cause an allergic reaction.Store Libéron Tung Oil at a temperature above 5°C. Always replace the lid otherwise the oil can deteriorate.If the excess is not removed and the surface becomes sticky, wipe with white spirit to remove the sticky film and allow to dry before continuing.IMPORTANT: Oil finishes bring out the natural colours of timber. A wet surface will be an indication of the final colour. Why** A: Perhaps it's sitting too thick on the surface of the wood did you dilute it with citrus terpene for the first couple of coats this is preferred and has a lovely orange oil smell which counteracts the natural tung oil smell which I find is similar in odour to sesame oil. Alternatively if you want a quick remedy wipe it down with a suitable solvent to remove the top layer of tung oil ando onice completely dry give it a coat of liberon finishing oil which cures to an odourless finish and is Matt to gloss depending on how many coats you give it. **Q: Would you suggest using grain filler on an oak table top before or after using this product?** A: Sorry, don't know for sure. I would expect you would fill any gaps before oiling, as stuff doesn't stick to oily things. I sanded down some old, aged oak for a shelf to go above our wood burner. It really did transform the appearance, it made the grain and features in the wood really stand out. It slightly darkened the wood, but not by much. Hope someone can give you a better answer. **Q: Can anyone tell me what the spout on the bottle looks like and how easy it is to pour?** A: It is a tin not a bottle and has a normal pour spout. My first time using it and was not prepared for the length of time it takes to dry. It says on the tin to "leave for a few days to dry fully". It's been about 2 weeks now and still not fully dried and oil is seeping out still. I guess this is an indication of how well it penetrates and would not of been a problem if I wasn't working to a deadline. Obviously the type of wood and number of coats applied will affect the result. The wood I used is tight straight grained white oak and the item a walking staff as a Christmas present. I've resorted to using a fan heater set very low to speed it up and seems to be working. I would be wary of applying too much heat. One disappointment is I sought advice from Liberon using their online sight "Contact us" and got no reply at all. Will I use this again? Most certainly.
