Can the bed be folded away with the bedding on it or do you have to make it every night?

Yes, sure. The total depth of your mattress and bedding ideally should not be greater than 300mm. There is a strap supplied with the bed to restrain your bedding from falling down as you fold the bed away.

Can the bed be freestanding?

Yes the same as in the picture. But when I had mine fitted they built a cupboard round it. It was a company called wall bed king. search google you will find it straight away.

Once folded down what is the height from the ground to the bottom of the bed

How secure the bed is when it is folded away? We have two boys ans worry the bed falls down when they open wardrobe doors.

The bed wont come down unless you pull on it quite forcefully, they would have to climb over half way up it to have any kind of movement depending on their size. Depending on the weight of your mattress you can also attach all the gas struts, we have a quite a heavy mattress and with all the gas struts attached we couldn't pull it down so had to leave 1 off on each side.
